get another SUB1?

I have the chance to grab another SUB1-- blue (not the teal color, but a deep yet bright blue) with a hardtail, HH, and solid black pickguard. I can get it for the same price as what I paid for my current SUB1 (which was a STEAL!). The problem is that I already ordered new Duncans for the SUB1, and also new pickups for my tele, so my budget's a bit tapped (and with a wedding coming up in under 2 months, no less!) I told my fiancee the price that was on the SUB1, and she said she was even tempted to get it-- and she doesn't even play guitar!

Ugggh, I really want to grab it, because it's such a great deal. I'm a bedroom player, so I really don't need a 3rd guitar (heck, probably don't even need two...)

What to do?
 
I'm with Dave here. I'm the sameway man, I can't play to save my life, but I've got 4 EBMM's. If the Sub1 is such a great deal, figure out away to make it happen.

I know the blue color it's nice. :)

Tell you soon to be wife that she can give it to you as your wedding present.

I guess I have to realize that just because its a killer deal doesn't mean I have to get it. I'll have my current SUB1 with a Duncan Jazz/JB pickup combo, which is pretty deadly. And the tele covers all the other ground, so it really is an unnecessary purchase... I could just use a chunk of tax return $ to cover it and it wouldn't be a HUGE deal. I guess I'd feel just as bad if I got it and didn't play it, as if I passed on the deal... darned if I do, darned if I don't!
 
Yeah, the other way you'd probably regret not buying it... :(
 
appar111, I understand what you mean. I go through that from time to time too. I have about 10 guitars and tons of other gear and I sometimes wonder if it's at all necessary. Then life intervenes. For example, one of the mods over at the Carvin website just suffered the loss of his son in a car accident. I don't mean to be melodramatic but let that sink in for a while. We don't know what tomorrow brings. Enjoy life even if one of those simple joys is the fun in buying another Sub1.

Your right-- everything needs to be put in perspective. About a year ago I got into a pretty bad car accident that almost ripped the front of my car clean off, and I walked away from it with only minor damages. I'm healthy, I'm lucky, I have a beautiful bride-to-be.... everything else (SUB1's included) is just icing on the cake.

I have a question for you. I have a Strat, Les Paul and a EBMM Petrucci. I'd like another EBMM, but don't know which one to get. Are there drastic differences in tone, etc.

Also, should I replace the Strat or Les Paul for a new EBMM? I won't give up the Petrucci! Of course, I want to keep all my guitars!

I've never owned a strat but own a Les Paul I'm currently selling on Ebay. I've got a Petrucci as well. I chose a Luke as my 2nd EBMM and couldn't be happier. What a great guitar.

I don't know if I'd be the best person to talk to about different EBMM's, since I only have experience w/ the SUB1. I did try the OLP version of the Petrucci and was less than impressed. The EBMM Petrucci was gorgeous, but unfortunately way out of my budget. If you can get the SUB1 as cheap as I got mine (and as cheap as the one I'm looking at), then definitely do so.

I just looked back at my taxes and if I put my state tax return $ together with another $75, I can grab the blue SUB1.... That's without even touching my federal return, which will go towards wedding expenses...

Just look at it this way, you can make the $75 back (and then some) in two months when you start returning all those extra toaster ovens, candlesticks, crystal punch bowls, china place settings, and matched linens that you won't have any actual need for ;)

LOL... you got THAT right!

I may end up keeping stock pickups in both guitars, in which case I won't need the Duncan JB for the bridge... if any of you are interested, PM me...

i have thought about getting another Sub1 but with a stoptail and using it for lower tunings. i say go for it and get it man. and congratulations by the way

Haha! Great point. Talk about good money spent on crap you'll never use! ;) If the wife ever complains about my gear (which she never does), I'll be ready to ask her if she knows where her engagement ring is. The one that cost me about $8k 9 years ago. I think she's worn it 5 times.
 
Well, you'll all be happy to know that I did indeed purchase the blue SUB1. Got it home, took off the grimey, rusty strings, gave it a once over with naptha to clean off the body and fretboard thoroughly, oiled the fretboard w/ some lemon oil (it was dryyyyyy), tweaked the action a bit (it was too low) slapped some Boomers on it and it sounds fantastic.

I had just purchased a Duncan Jazz pickup at GC the night before for the neck positionon my other SUB, so I returned it and put the $$$ towards the blue SUB1. I don't use the neck pickup much anyway, and it was good to shave another $75 off the already great price of the SUB. I'll most likely drop the Duncan JB I have into the bridge of the graphite SUB1 at some point, and some flavor of Dimarzio into the bridge position of the blue one somewhere down the road so there's a llittle more sonic difference between the two. No big rush on that though..

I'll try to take some tonight and get them up for everyone to peruse... They're both hardtails, so I don't have to worry about alot of the usual tuning issues that trems can bring. I'll see if I can get some cool views..
