The Los Angeles Times reports this morning that Gibson has sued Activision for patent infringment over the Guitar Hero Game.

According to the article, Gibson receives royalties from Activision for licensing Gibson trademarks for use in the Guitar Hero game. Activision notified Gibson on March 10th that Activision did not want to renew the licensing Agreement.

Gibson has now sued Activision on a ten year old patent for a concert simulation product, claiming the Activision game infringes the patent. Guitar Hero has generated $1 Billlion in sales in North America alone.

I thought it was for another reason.

I thought you were going to say that Gibson sued Activision because Activision made a better guitar than Gibson. FYI, I do think that Fenders are as good of quality as those used in Rock Band. Nice to have choices.;)

After second thought I can see how Gibson might be upset. It is easy to confuse the two LPs. Perhaps Gibson could include stickers with their guitars to even things up a little.

Activision LP never needs to be tuned

Gibson is jealous because their new guitar is only auto tuning, whereas Activision's LP never needs tuning. It stays in tune and never needs adjustment.
