Does anyone have an Axis newer than 2011? Just wondering as this is when MM went to using their own tremolo bridges and claim they are just as good as the Gotoh.

Yup. I have an Axis Tribute and it has the newer Floyd Rose. It's just as good as the Gotoh, but it really comes down to preference. I like the fine tuners on the Gotoh version better.

Someone did the research and installed a Gotoh model GE1996T in a newer Axis and it's a perfect fit. So there are options if you want to switch them out if it concerns you.

Hey I'm just curious, my 2008 Y2D has musicman written on its floyd base-plate..is this then the MM version or the Gotoh?
 
How do you adjust the tension of the tremolo bar on the new models? I like my tremolo bar to be very loose and just hang there?

We changed over to the new style in April of 2011. Anything produced prior to that will be Gotoh.

You can adjust the tension by doing a dive bomb which exposes the trem block and there is a set screw (1.5mm) that can be loosened.

AJ, I have a '95 Silo with a factory Gotoh Floyd bridge on it. Looks like the GE1996T but mine seems to have the intonation screws set a little off center ( toward the Low E side ). Is mine also the 1996T or was there a different/custom model you guys used back then? I recently stripped out the string locking screw on my A saddle and I'm worried if I get a set of regular Gotoh saddles they won't be aligned/spaced right. Am I crazy? Is it just an optical illusion?
 
Can I swap out the MusicMan/Gotoh Floyd with a new, standard Gotoh Floyd ( I think they're part # GE1996T ) or will the strings be offset? I can get a new Gotoh Floyd fairly reasonably priced and I'm not stranger to tearing one down and setting it up.
 
Just wanted to share with everyone...

I bought a Gotoh GE1996T for my Music Man which had a factory 'MUSICMAN' version with offset intonation screws. Just swapped them out and everything lines up great. Only issue is that the trem bar set screw is a different size and the socket the bar goes in doesn't mount the same way either. I rarely use it anyway but I'll pick one up down the road. Just glad to have my No. 1 back in action.
