Has anyone taken delivery of a JP with D-Sonic (especially those who have non-D-Sonic JPs)? How do you like it?

Are all new JPs coming out with the D-Sonic?

If so, is there an option to have the 'old' pickups i.e. the ones you can't get anywhere else but on the JP?

As far as I know, and maybe BP or a customer service rep will chime in, but I bleeb that since JP wants the D-sonic in his guitars, that's what you get, and that's all you get.

I have one on the way. Hopefully here in a week or two.

Will do an A/B comparison with the previous pickup when it's here. Mind you, with my playing (and ears) I may not be able to tell much difference!!!:D

Doh.... when did JP switch over to the D-sonics?

Seems to detract from the uniqueness of the pickups, seeing as anyone can pickup D-sonics over the counter :(

...yes but its an artists guitar so what JP wants goes into production.

If he wanted them all canary yellow with pink fender texas specials then I guess that would be what he got :) and therefore what we get!

Anyway my LE Petrucci with D-Sonic sounds fantastic - that JP has good taste you know - go with the flow

I don't think they are stock D-Sonics.

Actually, they are, unless EBMM CS wanted to lie to me when I called to ask them. :D

I don't believe they did.

As far as I knwo, they are the same except for the mounting hardware on the one on JP's is black and on the 6 string pick up the phase is reversed from the normal Dimarzio.

There is nothing different from the D-sonic JP uses and one you can buy from DiMarzio. They are identical. Now, I know the bar of the PU that comes on EBMMJPs is black while the standard DiMarzio one is silver. I don't know if the black bar is available from DiMarzio or not. Otherwise, the pickups are exactly the same!!!!

As far as it being wound different it is not it is exactly the same, but the phase is reversed so that when you use the middle position your actually using both inside coils instead of the outside coil on the bridge and inside coil on the neck. The plate where the pick up mounts on to on a regular D sonic is brass colored on the JP it's black, unless Dimarzio has changed this lately. This is information that I obtained from EB CS. You guys that have installed D Sonics on your JPM's might check to see if that is the case. Like I said this is the info I was given and by no means am I an expert or trying to lead anyone astray.

Yup, I was told this on the phone by DiMarzio too (about the phasing). And yeh, the plate on mine is brass and not black.

Is it true that the bar on the "EB D-Sonic" is black?

There are a couple on e-bay. The bar looks the same as the Dimarzio.

I've had some Mystic Dream and some Ltd '06 come through with black bars. I've also had an Egyptian Smoke come through with a silver bar. I asked EB about it, and they said that the bars are currently silver.
