Tell me your experiences, and comments on this matter. Fortunately enough I always protected my ears. It would be interesting to know what do people think about hearing protection etc

i am indecisive on this ...
i tried using hearos stuffs etc
but i end up not being able to monitor
other bandmates too well
thus i better taking them off
anyway ..
might try again next time

Quite strange. I listen better the band and more defined when I wear my earplugs. Note that I don't use any specialised ones. Just plain foam earplugs. Never had a problem. Can't say the same for the rest of the band though. They all have hearing problems.

If I play close to our drummer I use ear plugs but for regular playing I have no need but I always keep some close just in case!

If you play sets for less than 30 minutes that is quite okay but more than this is suicide. Go check www.hearnet.com

I know I have some hearing loss because mine has been checked. I also don't wear any protection to this day. I guess it's pretty stupid, but I don't feel the music when I have ear plugs in and I have an even harder time singing back-up vocals. I'm sure that I will pay dearly for this one of these days, but I don't see myself changing my ways at this point in my life.

During our concerts we play usually between one to two hours and there are times that I need ear plugs but there are other times I don't need them, its according to the venue that we are playing at.

Tinittus generally can be healed with several ways. But your cooperation is needed above all. As for the dependance on the venue, I'd say that it more depends on the dBs that your band emits.

Hearo's tend to help me hear my amp better but it blocks out the harshness like the sudden attack of the drums. Our drummer pops the snare pretty hard and that sudden attack can damage you ear drums. Extended volume can also damage them over time.

Thats why I always keep them on hand just in case. In a former band they were always needed but the band that I'm in now I only need them sometimes.

Ok. Generally I don't want to stress my ears. A drummer I used to have played also in another band twice per day and guess what!From 8 o'clock in the mornin' till 2 pm, he worked in the demolition business. He handled the compressor(this is LOUD) for all these hours everyday with NO earplugs. He told me that everyday ehen he finished the demolitions, he felt like his head would break in 2 pcs. And he was laughing. And he laughed even more when I told him to use ear protection. He already has lost a great amount of his hearing because he thinks that "nowadays everything can be repaired". He believes that when he becomes stone deaf he'll just buy another pair of cochliae and eardrums and start from the beginning. When you speak about nerves, neurology hasn't a clue on how to repair destroyed nerves and fibres.

That's bad! They still have trouble repairing the ears, thats why so may people use hearing aids. I have been told that hearing aids are a royal pain in the @#%!

I wear earplugs religiously. Used to use the hearos ones, but then found these nice ones from etymotic research (https://www.etymotic.com/ ). For a set with a string to wear around your neck, I think it was in the neighborhood of $18. Nothing outlandish, and they work well. Gives a bit more clarity of sound than the hearos.
I've been using these for a year or so and really like them. I've lost a lot of hearing in my left ear from having a car with no AC, and driving 60 highway miles round trip to work in the Arizona summers with the window down for over 12 years...well you get the picture.

Yep! That will hurt the ears! I damaged my left ear in a factory from the noise! I have been babying them since. Not much hearing loss but a little!
