Question Hello and a quick question

Hey folks, new to the forums here, been a Strat player (well still am as well), but have recently picked up the St Vincent guitar, and am very happy with it. But I do have a quick question, can this tremolo be set up to float or is it dive only?

Hello Echoes. I mostly wanted to say welcome to the forums, and I'm sure someone else will comment more definitively, but I believe you can set that tremolo up to float. The models with that bridge seem to all come set up from the factory to dive only, but can be floated, I think.

Yep you can. Some folks on here have the same guitar and I believe have floated it and can give more detail. Think Pete might have done it for a customer when he was doing a mod on one

Hope so. And hopefully some people will be back here today chatting to find out some details. I tried doing some research but haven't been able to find anything here or on youtube etc.
 
Yes, it can be set to float. Loosen the trem claw screws so that back of the bridge raises.

Loosen the trem screws a few turns, retune, check the gap at the back of the bridge or up-pull, repeat as necessary until you're happy.

When in tune there is a ~ 3 mm gap at the back of the bridge (see photo), which gives a enough up-pull for a minor third bend on the G string, a whole step on the B string, and a half step on the high E string. This factory setup on all Luke model guitars.
 
Is that the same tremolo that's on the St Vincent without the cover?

If so then ok, it's like a strat, just hard to tell with the cover over the bridge..
 
It doesn't matter. The St Vincent trem is the same design used on the JP guitars, Stringray, and Cutlass, but they fiunction the same - knife edges on two posts.

Ok, thats what I was hoping to hear. Last question then, is the cover removable?
 
Thanks I'll take a peek then, they should put that info on each guitars page or include it with the guitars.
 
Well it turns out only one hole is accessible to remove the cover, would have to take out the whole tremolo to do it.

But, the floating is working fine.
