Help! JP15 sounds dark and muddy

I bought an immaculate JP15, everything works, but it sounds very dark and muddy. Like there is a blanket covering the tone. Bridge pickup almost sounds like a wah half cocked.

What could the problem be?

Both pickups ?
Did you try a brand new powerful battery, non rechargeable ?
Does you tone pot turn correctly and is not loose and at minimum ? Same with others ?
Is the piezo on ?
How are push pull pots ? back of the guitar little tweaking screws ?

Did you try another instrument cable first ?

Do you have another guitar for comparison? If so, it would be helpful to record both under the same amp settings, so we could tell if there's something wrong going on.
