Help needed: Silo Special conversion from SSS to HSS

Hi,

I have my eyes set on a used Silo Spec SSS but would need to be able to convert her into HSS. I understand from old threads that the Silo Spec is routed for HSS, so I guess all I need to do is find a HSS pickguard. What I don't know is how to make the silent circuit work after fitting a humbucker. Any tips are most welcome. Thanks

I cant help you but I would email customer service if you cant call from London, and the HSS silo special is my favorite! I have 2

Actually, the Silo Special is routed to whatever configuration it was made in the factory. so, if it's SSS, then you'll need to route the bridge location for the Humbucker. As for the wiring, here is:

Yes, like Glenn said, the SSS Silo Special is routed SSS. If you want a full-size humbucker in there, you'll have to bring the guitar to someone who can rout the cavity. How about a single coil sized humbucker?

Of buy the SSS if it really is a great deal and trade it for a HSS later down the line?

Plenty of good single size Humbuckers out there! On a side note, glad I got the HSS then as I want to have both a HSS and SSS guard for my silhouette special at some point.

Mat, you could put some pin connectors on the wires, so you can swap pickguards with ease. You can get them at Radio Shack.

Hi Capelo - I am in the same position as you. Proud owner of a SSS Silo Special, but missing a bit of bridge power. I don't want to carve the guitar up, so have gone for a single-sized humbucker.

Thanks a lot guys. Really appreciate all the input. I finally managed to get hold of the seller and apparently it is a HSS Silo Spec turned into SSS. So, there should be no problem reverting her to HSS! Now I need to agree a final price with the fella... wish me luck!

Thanks DrKev! Things are moving in the right direction. Just waiting to see if I can unload some gear quickly, as the wife won't be happy if I show up with another guitar. Might have to pull the trigger on this one and keep her in the office until I sell the other stuff
