What is musicman thinking?? why are you making the Bongo? its so ugly!@# Why not use the stringray body with the upgraded pickups and preamp?

Honestly my dream bass is a stingray with a graphite neck and two humbuckers, but I would never get a bongo.

and whats the deal with no maple fret boards?

I'm not a moderator, but I do have (currently) five MusicMan basses and there are many more in my past - and probably in my future, too...anyway.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The first time I saw the Bongo, I said "Um, what is THAT?" But now it's grown on me and I can't wait to try one out and yeah, I'll probably have to have one, too.

Give it some time. Look at it a little. It may well not be your cup of tea, but it does look like a mean bass to me!

Bovine hit it perfectly, Music Man decided to go in another direction and actally innovate a bass. Most companies rely on emulating Jazz and P-Basses while calling themselves innovators. The bongo is not for everyone, thats why we offer the Sting Ray and Sterling as well. A two-pickup Sting Ray is a possibility, even though not offered currently.

Change is hard for bassists, I think, and new and innovative products are sometimes difficult to sell to us. Have any of you guys run out to buy a Parker bass?

But I've had such good experiences with MM products that it's hard to imagine the Bongo will be a dud. I don't know if EB's sales expectations will be met, but I think - finally - it's a great looking bass and I can't wait to try one out (at home).

Of course, I also thought the sparkle finishes were awesome, and look what happened to those, heh heh.

Ok, here is the deal. If the Bongo does not appeal to some of you (looks) at least try it out. I can put a pretty solid gaurentee that you will not be disappointed. I feel that the output, sound, and tonal capabilities the Bongo has will come through when the smoke clears...

What about the sabre bass?? Has everyone forgotten about this tone monster??? It's by far the best bass (i played an '80 i think) that i have ever played. In fact, the bass that i have just finished putting together from Warmoth parts might as well be a sabre with a Jazzmaster body and Fender headstock. I emailed you guys a while back and got this horrible response from sone guy saying "it wasnt putting out the tone we wanted." PFFFF! That bass was pure tone. Im glad youre reintroducing it as the bongo. I look forward to playing it.

On a similar note : How close are the electronics to the electronics of a sabre?

If you do add a second pickup to the stingray, would you just do me a favor and call it a sabre? That bass left us before its time.

The Sabre has been seen increasing demand in the last couple of years, but didn't sell well years back. Time will tell if the Sabre is reintroduced.
