This is a nice bass man...but you did good...I just can't get used to the necks on these...feel like a 2x4...excellent packing job too!! Look at my left hand...all spazzed out but can now start to play again...just have to creep my thumb up a bit...worked for Nikki...

This is one sexy bitch...lemme tell ya...but not even close to my Bongo in any way...ergonomiclly or sonically...not even close...it is a piece of American manufacturing art that "works"..very nice machine...just not my cup of tea...I tip my hat to John Hall...very nice!!

Pardon my bass newbieness.....what is that chunk of metal (looks like it is covering a pup) for? For I have only owned one bass....my bongo. :cool:

That is the bridge pickup cover. It's used to keep the tone inside the bass, so it doesn't escape.

Notice on EB basses there is no cover, the tone is free to leave the bass and travel to your amp.

A few other outdated basses have covers like that.
 
Thanks todd.....I am still learning the ins and outs of the bass. Being a guitar player, then switching to bass in a band, I have my work cut out for me. Playing the bass ain't so much of a problem with the type of music I am doing.....just finding out things like that are interesting to me. Thanks again.:cool:

Outdated? That's called style......instantly......recognizable....... notice how Steve can start using his hand again....it also has healing powers!!......:p

Those are the Ashtrays, from in the olden tymes, when real men could smoke and play bass at the same time.

'Nuf tails of King Arthuer. The real story is that it's a safety cover. On a time machine [triple entendre, 12 points] you need shielding against radiation, quarks, and beer. Anyway, they don't have them on Bongos, which is really all anyone needs to know about them. Real basses don't have them.

You've only ever owned one bass, and it's your Bongo? Jeez, you were born and or drug up with all your ducks in a row. Of course you've been deprived of all the adventure, and angst, and expense, of arriving in BongoLand by the 'scenic route', so take the time you never wasted and become the world's premier Bongoista. Maybe some day you'll be EBMM's first or only endorsee.

which explains why nearly everybody took them off and lost them? or found better use for them [which is why they are also called 'ashtrays']....
 
I’ll probably get flamed for this but I think Ric’s look like a high school wood shop project that got an F. :D



But hey what do I know, I’m a lefty… you know brain damaged, lack of oxygen at birth, raised my squirrels, I’m sure Ric’s are very cool, I’m just not cool enough to get it, that’s all. ;)

Chris Squire squeezed every sound out of it that the thing has to offer. With both pickups at full blast (strung with a set of Rotosound rounds) you can hear the classic Close to the Edge tone. Flip the toggle switch up for neck pup only and you get more of the tone he used on his solo album Fish Out of Water (with Bruford on drums). He uses mostly Ampeg and Marshall rigs onstage.

Steve, like the Peas say, "Watcha gonna do with all that bass"?

I admit it, BigBallz. I was a Yes freak in the 70s. And now that my Ric is worn out (from years of playing and gigging with it), it's too sentimental a thing to sell. Like an old hounddog, my best friend til the end.

Hey Koogs ~ with the feel of the Bongo neck, the transition between the two is a lot easier than if you were to grab, say...a Ric. ;)
