Hey BigBallZ,

Although I'm a TE enthusiast, doesn't mean I can't learn to like somethin' else;
- Pls tell me more about Ampeg
- I'd like to hear from *your* experiences

My application in the short term is SR5 / Piezo for BlueGrass
- I need a solid, smooth, and phat tone at low volume levels
- in a reasonably portable unit

I have 3 Ampeg amps I am extermely pleased with. 2 bass heads, and one guitar head. I like the limiter feature on the B2R bass head and the EQ on it as well. My SVT is pretty much beaten into submission, missing half the knobs, broken off eq sliders, missing faceplate and some odd power cord that was fused on there by someone who owned it before me. It still sounds amazing and hasn't failed on me one time. My SS-140c is a solid guitar head, with a good cleantone sound, and a nice lead channel. Never failed once, and I spill beer on it and it rides in the back of an open truck and gets slammed around. I'm pretty hard on my Ampeg stuff, and it's never let me down. I play my bass heads through a Peavy cab with Black Widows in it, and I can get some great lows. Not very protable though, the cab is huge. The B2R is the slimmest of the 3 heads.

Hey CM, Tnx 4 that !!! Something to add to my TestList !

Curious though,
- WHY do you spill beer on your guitar head ???
- Could it be that you haven't yet tried a can of Jim Beam on it ??? :)

Well, (sucks in girth)...do you want a combo, or a small component or the grandaddy kick axx rig?:eek:

Lets say then from me readin your clearly worded request, (in itself, a miracle) My recomendation would be the ba210. Good combo. I owned it. 220 watts into 2-10's. Has aall the bells n whisles...built in tuner...is ported and realy cranks. Round clean tone. Then there is the ba 115hp...220 watts through a single 15. Now I have owned the ba115, which was a single 15 at 100 watts....not enough power for me...traded it in on the ba210, which has a horn and eq. The ba115 only has the horn.

Please, I am not bragging, but I have owned/tried many combos of Ampeg gear. I love it and own it. Pleases ask on. See sig for latest combo.

Hey Rayan,

I know we've been chatting a lot about Trace Elliot, but I must admit that I am also an Ampeghead like BigBallz and I must say that Ampeg would be ideal for your type of music. From what I understand, you want an upright bass type of a sound. You can definitely get that from Ampeg. I would recommend the Classic series heads and cabinets. And if you really want an upright sound, string your bass with flatwounds (a la James Jamerson of Motown Records). Flatwounds combined with a classic tube-driven amp and classic ported cab will definitely give you the upright boom you crave. Just make sure you get a cart, too. The classic series stuff can get pretty heavy. ;)

I'm curious about that 'vintage' type tube job with the flipup head ??

But I'm open minded about solid state, and separates could work if they're top quality and 'smooth'; *not* harsh or tight;
I think I'm hooked on a 15" spkr for the old school phatness,
but I don't want to miss "open highs" when I need them ...

Am I asking for too much ???

I love my B2R as well! Does everything I need it to do for medium-sized gigs with a 2x15 setup.

Coupled with my Stingray (or when I had my Bongo HS), it delivers the goods without breaking the bank or my back.

An SVT-PRO amp may be on the horizon, but I'm in no rush.

Not at all. As for the flip up tube, I have never played/owned it. I belive psycho would be best for that review. I belive he has two sets. I do own the SVT 300 watt All Tube beast that I just got yesterday. Hey it's heavey, but I only wish you could hear it with my Sting Ray....**it!!!

I would reccomend the ba115hp. This link will let you make 3 monthly payments, and if you don't like it, return it.

Hey Mr Light, Tnx 4 that !!!
I'll have to check out dimensions for transportation; which is the main problem with my TE stuff right now.

I'm using flatwounds on my 'P' style G*L and they're pretty nice, but I really miss the B string, especially when the 'birdees' start singin' harmonies in B flat etc

CodeMonkey likes the B2R as well,
- do you know of a particular 1x15 cab that would "delivers the goods without breaking the bank or my back" ???

Mr Light,
Is the Classic stuff the 'old school' design,
- or the most 'modern' design ???
