hi all.

Here is a little clip I made a couple of minutes ago. I am going through all the positions on the silo. From neck to bridge. What bothers me are the two positions with bucker splitting (3rd and 4th position). To me they don't sound straty at all, rather thin and I was wondering if yours sound similar. Maybe it's because of the vintage output pickup?

thanks

sounds mighty ine to me, love hearing nice clean playing, well done! Pickups sound fine to me, you arent going to get the nice stratty tone from the humbucker split positions, you need to have a single coil in the bridge really to get that tone. great playing bro.

you are probably right Rob, thanks. I am probably used to my older strats where in SSH config there wasn't humbucker splitting, rather whole humbucker+single. That way it wasn't scooping the mids in that positions. Thanks for the compliments but that's just pointless wanking :) just wanted to show the tone ;)

I was using my crappy Marshall AVT 150 valvestate amp 1x12 combo. I am hoping for buying new amp soon (probably a Rivera combo - I love'em)

I love it, sounds great. Excellent playing, too!

What color is your Silo? I want the one I'm ordering tomorrow to sound like that :)

hehe, it's a vintage sunburst with rosewood board. I've read you have enough of bursts already ;)

Ha, I guess I could have read your signature ...

I have a vintage sunburst with maple board (I just read my signature), it's my Number One guitar. Seriously, except for the talent gap, my Silo does sound like yours.

I just listened again...great feeling in your playing.

Sounds good, Philip, nice touch.

But I'm getting confused about numbering of positions. Position 2 splits the bucker with the middle, 3 splits the bucker with the neck, 4 is the middle/neck, and 5 is the neck. That's how I understand it anyway.

I disagree with Rob, though not entirely, about position 2 not having the "stratty" quack. It isn't exactly the same as the SSS but to my ears it gets pretty close. I've had SSS Silo Special pups too. Realistically, a Silo Special doesn't sound like a Strat in any position, regardless whether it's a SSS or HSS. It has its own vibe, which is somewhat stratty, but not the same as an actual Strat.

thank you, I think it was a bit random but I am glad that you liked it. Good luck with your new purchase :)

Philip, one thing I've noticed is that the single coils get more vintage sounding when they are lowered, though naturally they lose some output. This is unlike the humbucker, which seems to fall apart when lowered.

i really enjoyed the tones...it does thin out in those in between positions, but in the right context in the right song, those tones are great....maybe using a nice compressor as a clean boost would help those tones out a little.

nice playing, too...thanks for sharing!

Think I may be agreeing with Rob's observation on bridge/middle pickup sound difference . Will know more next week.
