HH or HS

I'm considering getting a Bongo. For greatest fexibility and all round performance which is the better option to go for - dual humbuckers or humbucker/single coil ?

Any comments/advice appreciated.

For me pesonally, I will go with the double humbucker since bongo has an option to have double coils

I suppose that the HS option would tend to give more Jazz-like tones with the neck pickup on, whereas the HH would have more of a precision like tone with just the neck humbucker...

I imagine that, being in the UK, you're not going to have much of an option to try out many of either type... I've not seen one in the flesh yet.

You're right. I've had a good offer of one from the USA. From what I can gather the neck is like an SR5 which I find just right so it's really the pick-up config that I need to decide on before I go ahead and order. Then it's 2-3 months wait.

My gut feeling would be to go with the HH. If nothing else, it looks nicer...

Don't see too many people talking about the single H version

Yes I was leaning towards HH but I thought I'd ask the experts first to see if I was missing anything fundamental or crucial. Itll be interesting to see if here are any more posts when the USA wakes up later today. I guess you're in the UK also!

Yep, Dundee... so it's unlikely I'll see a Bongo anytime soon in the local shops.

There's two guitar shops here that have Musicmans in stock, one has an SUB and a rather nice sunburst Stingray, the other has a 20th Anniversary Stingray for around £1000. But that's it.

Sooner or later, I'm bound to have something worthwhile to add to this discussion. As it stands, I have two Bongos, both 2H, and have never laid hands on a HSC version - so any thought of a comparison is right out.

I can't imagine more flexibility with the SC in the neck, but I suppose it's possible. I do highly recommend the 2H configuration...the bridge pickup gives you some really decent Stingray-type tone, then you dial in the neck pickup and things begin to get really interesting.

My inclination was towards HH but I just wanted to see if anyone came up with any comments about the HS. I guess those two Humbuckers together must be quite a sound.
