Hipshot Extender on a SR 5

I'm possibly missing something here. Why would you install a hipshot on the E string of a bass that has a B string?
I would think that the nut spacing would be too big for the E-string to fit in the B-String slot, that is if you are tuning e-a-d-g-c, and would rattle too much. I used to have a Carvin 6-String and put a Hipshot on it.....LOW LOW LOW note but not worth it. Didn't use it enough. Other than that, it should fit just like it would on a 4 string.....
