Hey guys, i was wondering today at work about what could have been of my life if I never learned to play.... Well it seems like this piece of wood that apparently ( to untrained eyes) has no life and just sits there on the corner is one of the cornerstones of my existence, exajerating? dun think so.... if u think im exajerating u should rethink why u play guitar....period.
Just think about it, every time u feel something inside you that just wants to xplode or if u feel sorrow or loneliness there she is for u, it borrows itself to u so u can let it all out thru her, the bond is more than fisical, u hear ur emotions rumble the room and its even better when someone else appreciates those feelings, its extremely rewarding, for me it just puts a huge smile on my face that i can not erase no matter what i do......, u just grab it, and it may seem at first that ur not making sense, but after a few minutes the conection starts and the feelings starts flowing non stop, no matter if its a killer shredding run or an intrincated jazz phrasing or even a slow tempo blues tune its all there, happiness, sadness, joy, sorrow, all that xprecion of emotions is what makes guitar playing one of the best things about life, dun matter if ur a virtuoso or a guy that just learned powerchords..... once u get it going there is no way back, now multiply all that by 100 if your playing a EBMM !!:D

Yep gotta agree!

To those that don't play, it is hard to explain. It is part of me. Even though I am not a professional player, the thing that defines me, besides being a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nefew, and friend, is I am a guitar player. Not just someone that plays the guitar. Whether I ever get involved in a cool band or not, play in front of others, or write my own material, I will still always play. It is ironic how it can be frustrating and so rewarding all at the same time. It is my only passion/hobby/interest.

That's right, the guitar defines who I am. I have guitar and music to literally thank for that I have not gone insane yet. I am at the border line, but the guitar and playing music is really a life savior for me in this wicked world of nonsense, greed, lust for power, etc, etc. I have chosen to play guitar as a profession, even tho I am not there yet at all. I have gotten into a music conservatory in Brooklyn College, but due to strange things that happen in life I am not going this semeseter, but a hoping to get back as soon as possible. IN the mean time I am practicing my ass off in technique and coming up with some material for future recordings. Like I say to my friends, that if I could not play guitar, my life would be meaningless, because I cant imagine doing anything else. Well it would not be meaningless, but I would be a zombie walking about doing whatever society says that "needs" to be done. Playing guitar is actually one of the MAJOR MAJOR things that makes me want to be in front of MASSSES of people, but without guitar in hand I really dont like being around MASS amounts of people. Anyway, that is how close I am to insanity, and geetar is the top of the list keeping me sane next to real friends and family (but those can sometime get on nerves as well and everyone probably agrees with that, but than again so does guitar, but in that case I dont want to get away from it). Anyway, that is my thingusness on guitar and me.

My life is certainly defined as a bass player and musician!

As someone who didn't particularly take to team sports in school (I passed on track opp's; potential scholarships), I stumbled upon the bass and found my niche.

I also found a 'team sport' that I could get into whole-heartedly.

It also boosted my popularity at high school; not a bad perk! :D

Bass and music are so saturated in my blood now, that I can't imagine walking away from them for any reason short of death.

one of my friends asked my a couple of months ago, "why do you play guitar?" and I frankly don't have an answer.

I guess because I can't remember a time when I didn't. I really have no idea what I'd do if I didn't wake up and know that if there's nothing else to do today: I am going to play my guitar.

I picked up a book a few years ago called "zen guitar". If you are into this kind of thinking/philosophy then it is a must read.

Well, I definately have less money because of Guitar... :)

Actually, I have been pretty blessed by playing music. It gives me something to dream about. I was an athlete for a while. As I got older I realized that I would never be a professional at any sport (is useless trivia a professional sport?), I needed a new dream. Something to think about when I needed a break. Guitar was my savior on this front, so to speak. The more I played and learned, the more I realized that I will always be able to play at a local club, or in some way chase my musical dreams. So guitar has become one of those precious parts of my life that makes the hard or painful moments much more bearable. If that makes any sense at all.

Even if someone close passes away, I can always play them a song....

My guitar is my life. Its my social life, my hobby, my passion, what I spend all my money on, its everything!

I am not sure what path my life would have taken had I not have learned to play guitar. Who knows?! Probably senior in some job that I hated, looking for something to do!

I sometimes think about what I would do if one day I couldnt play. I would proabably go mad!

I'll counter with Viv Savage:

"So long as there's sex and drugs, I think I could live without the rock 'n roll bit ..."

Pretty cool guys, i find guitar playing an extremely good way to help me through the tough times in my life and Peter71 I have done that myself with my dad and a bunch of his guitar playing friends from highschool , we just when to the funeral service and gave our friend a " serenata" wich is nylon strings and us singing her favorite songs, i know my father would like that and I certainly like it too.

I don't know if this happends to u guys or im just insane, but when im practing or playing along some cd and some one calls me, even for lunch or whatever, i get super pissed off and totally ruins my mood
