How important is the silent circuit?

I'm looking to buy an Albert Lee model & a guy posted on The Gear Page about having one for sale at a GC that he used to own & that is before the silent circuit & he replaced the pickups with Joe Bardens. Does this sound like an improvement? How important is the circuit?

Well I am very biased in a positive way towards the silent circuit. I have an Axis SS w/ MM90s and love the tone I get and the bonus is that there is no hum. Now as far as I know Bardens are noiseless, so it really won't matter if the silent circuit is there or not.
