How often do you change your flatwound bass strings?

How often do you change your flatwound bass strings? Also, please tell me how many hours per day or per week you play, so I have something to judge by.

Every ten years unless a string breaks or I want to try a different brand. :eek:

Actually the strings on the Bongo in the avatar have been on at least three basses before this one which I've had for a couple of years now I think. I play every day pretty much if not out just practice at home.

I've had my Sterling a little over a year and I haven't changed the Chromes. I simply wipe them off when I am done playing and I clean them with the EB String Cleaner once a week.

Hours per week?- it varies but let's just say the Sterling gets played almost every day or at least it did before I got my Bongo a few weeks ago.

Flatwounds last a long time- keep them clean and they will sound great for years.:D
 
got my dad's '62 Fender Bass VI with flatwounds on it...they haven't been changed since 1972...sounds like "fart, fart fart, fart, fart fart..." If it were me, maybe once every year or two...
 
Never. I have 3 sets of flats that I rotate around various basses. La Bellas, Chromes and Fenders.

I will likely have them forever or until they break.
 
The question should be more like; how often do you change your bass on your flatwound strings.

I have a 7yr old set of flats that have now been on 3 basses that came and went. They're now on a keeper bass, and they sound great.
 
when they break, I'll put in a fresh set. yes, I do break them sometimes.
 
Just a minute - how the hell are you going to break a flatwound? With all that heavey slapping you do with them?

I've had them on my P since I got it 2 years ago, and they were on it before that - it's 20 years old. Sound great and I don't know what brand they are.
 
I never change them unless they're coming off for a setup. Otherwise, the older the better!
 
A Bongo + Flats......

You never have to change the Bass or the Strings.....:D

....I had a set of half rounds I kept on for 14 years........they still sounded great!
I would imagine the same would apply to flats.
 
Haven't changed them so far. Had them on 6-8 months and try to play at least some every day and gig typically every other week. I do use EB string cleaner on them especially before/after gigs.

How do you move them from bass to bass like this? I can get maybe 2 basses out of a set of strings, then the ends up by the tuners fatigue and unwind or break.

:confused:
 
Phil Chen once told me that he hasn't changed his flats on one of his basses in 25 years. It's mojo...
