Question How to get someone to sign on my JP guitar?

Hi there , sounds like a off question but I have never tried before.....

I wanna get one of my JP guitar (glossy surface) to be signed by one of my greatest bandmate , what kind of pen should i use and how can i protect the sign afterwards?

I have something in the ballpark of 60 artist model guitars signed by the artist - and always go for a standard sharpie with siggy on the front of the guitar below the bridge, where I can still play the guitar and it won't get rubbed. I've never used any kind of clear coat or anything over the top and they still look great many years afterwards.

Sharpies are available in numerous colors, so be sure to pick one with a good contrast to the guitar being signed!

On the signed Sterling JP60D (in Sterling Siliver) - John signed them below the bridge on the treble side with a gold paint pen:

It seems to work fine, but in real life you can't see it nearly as well as Sweetwater's pics. So color contrast is a good thing to think about. I also have a EBMM JPXI signed:

I, too, am thinking of ways to protect the signatures. My first choice, as of now, is a clear iPad screen protector cut perfectly to go just around the signatures. Truth be told, I don't play these guitars much so there's little chance of anything happening to the siggies, especially since the siggies are in a place that's way out of the way of normal play wear & tear. YMMV.

Lukather signed on my luke in 2006, with a white pen like this

and, I protected the sign with a gloss. The sign is still like new.

Gloss? Well I had my trem cover signed and I bought an aerosol can of nitrocellulose from a guitar parts supplier.

Just misted it really really really really fine - then built up the layers thicker as I went along, let it harden and buffed it up. Came out great!

I would go to an art supply store and buy a Paint Pen. I've had a few guitars done this way and it's worked out great.
