hahahhaa, what's up man. That's just how it goes man. I have the same issues all the time. One day I can do some INSANE alternate picking, string skipping, and whatever, and another day my picling hand cant handle teh simplest sh*t. However missing out a month is a lot, and it decreases yuor stamina and also techinque. IN order stay in good shape you gotta practice every day. This is what I know, but I myself have MANY problems, and always feel like I am not worthy of such an instrument or what not. But also you have to get used to it more. Before the Silo I was playing a Ibnz with a neck thru thin a$$ neck, and big mahagony body without a middle single pup. So there is LOTS of aspects to feeling that way. I have been through such SOOOOO many times. Like all the great geetar players we love say: "Just DO it". This is more specifically Petrucci quoting Steve Morse. Isnt that great??!>!??!?! :D

LOl yeah man i heard that quote, its awesome, i do try to play every day at least a lil bit. I got some backing tracks of lots of songs i like and started with some basic stuff like AC/DC's back in black that i've been playing since i can remenber... and the playing was like ugh..... i stoped at the first notes of the solo..... and just last week i was almost nailing Europe's final countdown solo, its tricky not too hard but its harder than back in black and right now im practicing some basic alternate picking stuff and both hands are going in totally oposite directions just sucks man

JUST DO IT!!!! lol It takes time to be good at anything specific. Same sh*t with going to the gym and trying to lose weight and get fit. For example I cant sweep pick for sh*t at this point. That's because I never practiced it that much until recently, after 5 years of playing geetar. I am pretty decent at leggato, but after like a minute I cant do it anymore with the same effect. That just shows that MORE practice is needed. And this is called DISCIPLINE people!!!!!! My goal is to have sweep picking at a decent level by the time the Luke comes, and increase my alternate picking speed double time.

Between 160 and 180. Something like that. I really cant remember right now since I am drunk and STILL drinking wine. However my speed decreased because I have not been practicing STRICTLY for the past like 2 months or something.

I just drank that last gulp to that mate! :D We shall drink one of these days man. I definatly want to check out that JP of yours. I will probably have a hangover, but that's how its been for a while, cuz I've been jamming with my friend form my job, and he likes to pour me whiskey all the time. Had some good time playing Satriani stuff tonight. Anyway, I am gonna pass out in like 5 minutes. This thread is like ME and YOU man!!!!

Yea, whiskey, beer, and THEN my father gave me a goblet of wine when I got home. And mix that all with geetar playing and Satriani, and you have pure Rock!!! The only thing that's missing right now is chicks  . But that will come soon (I hope). Anyway, I love my Silo, am in love with the Luke even more since today, and I will so you people LATER TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, I guess I am only speaking to YOU at this point MrHyde, hahahhahha :D . Anyway man, I'll talk to you later. We'll jam one of these days.

I know how you feel. There are still some licks I can't play well on my Pet that I used to be able to play on 'other' brand guitars.

I just haven't taken the time to really work on those licks. I think it's the difference in the fretboard radius that's throwing me. And I know that a little more practice is the solution.

Work on the things that are difficult.

It's like being an athlete, you've got to work hard to stay on top of your game. Ten years ago I was scary - Mr. 128th note all day long. I won a regional guitar war and thought I was Mr. Shred. I played for 6-8 hours a day - practice, band practice, gigs. I even found a way to work playing into my social life by carrying a small classical guitar around and playing for dates and parties.

Now I can't play as technically as I used to (demoted to 32nd notes ;) ), but I really feel what I play at a much deeper level, and enjoy playing - I love it when the family goes to the mall or whatever so I can crank it up and jam.

Try a lighter gauge of strings, or better yet, go for the Optimum String Tension. I noticed that when my Pet was strung with 10's it felt TIGHT, while all my other guitars felt LOOSE. I have since switched to a custom set of strings, sort of light top heavy bottom, but with increase in tension from high to low, and I find I am using way less energy to play. I fatigue less, my right hand picking has improved, and I find my speed has increased.

I feel like that every time I pick up my guitar. If you saw my equipment, you'd think that I was actually good. Looks can be deceiving.
