And I like it! I forget which forum member has this in their sig, but it sounds great. My 5H was way too bright with the roundwounds, so I thought I'd give it a try. So far, so good. Can't wait to hear them a few months from now.

I gues a active bass is powerfull enough to put straight into the microphone input on your laptop (if its got one)

I have flats on my 5H too.. and my Stingray. Cobalts on the Dargie Bongo, and they will stay on there until I can get my hands on a set of Cobalt flats.

I love flats on the Bongo H as well. Love that thump! But, as an alternative, you could also go with Cobalt rounds and just turn the mids and treble down about 30 or 40%. I know Lord Bongo said he likes to turn the mids and treble way down on his Bongo 5H. That way you still get the sound of rounds but without it being so bright. And Cobalts have a lot of that same thump you get from flats.
So...just something to think about if you get bored of the flats at some point.

I've been running flats on my Bongo 4H for about 6 years now. I think I still have the original set on!

This is interesting. I have flats on my SR. classic and love it..was wondering about putting flats on my Bongo and posting the question to get thoughts on doing this, I think I've found my answer. Time to try it.

Done. put a set of TI JF344,s on the bongo. After a minor truss rod adjustment (which is ridiculously easy on Musicman basses). All set up and ready to go!!!

there is something in the sound that makes the bongo scream for flats and a 2x12 neodymium cabinet.

Wait till you try the Cobalt flats.
The hardest part for me is adjusting to the feel of flats.
I've played rounds for 25+ years. But the more I play,
the more I like them.
Don't get crazy zipping into fast slides. You can actually
get a really painful burn, right where you least want to
get it, right in the middle of a gig. Fortunately I learned
this during home practice.
