I recently bought an OLP MM3 5 String........

........natural finish and maple neck/fret board. Aside from the absence of active electronics, the quality of build and the feel of this instrument is way too close to an actual MM Stingray 5. How do I justify this comparison? Because I *own* a cherry burst, maple neck/maple fretboard Stingray 5. The feel is almost identical. My question (since I've been told so many *stories* about OLP) Is OLP actually a entry level Music Man? Did
Sterling Ball actually have a hand at the creation of this line? Is this simply a licensing deal and this asian company just creating this level of quality for this miniscule price? This is the coolest purchase I've made in years. My MM5 has better tonal flexibility but I declare that OLP is just inches behind.

I too agree that MusicMan makes some of the best basses on the planet and the design of the Stingray is timeless!

OLP is not part of the Music Man company. It is a licensing deal we made with HHI a distributor located in the midwest. OLP is a brand name that stands for Officially License Product.

Music Man is not involved in the production process of these instruments.

We approved some prototypes they sent over early on, and for the money we felt they were excellent entry level instruments.
