I Think I'm Getting a JP!

OK the guy at the local music store has offered me to return my Sub1 and my baby Marshall 30 for an upgrade. Now I wanted a Silo, but he said the won't go for it because it isn't worth there efforts, so I asked about the JP's. It would have to be a special order...but hey I can wait. Here is the info he gave me that came from his PC...

Hey Raz.....I will only give you this bit of advice so take it for what it is worth.

I would try out a JP prior to buying. The deal sounds ok to me, but you are going in blind. I love EBMM guitars, but the AL and Luke just don't fit me real well and I would never buy one on the blind. You may find the JP is not to your liking. Then you will be holding a guitar you will not play and then have to take the pain in getting rid of it. The music store will do what it thinks is best for them, not you. I know of a few dealers on here who are very helpful (part of the forum family ) and may tell you the same thing. Try it before you buy it. This is an expensive piece to go in on blind.

OK, this is a bit off topic, but I've always wondered about the JP as well but haven't seen one locally to play with. (Had the same problem before I bought the Morse, but Steve being one of my heroes I just couldn't resist ...)

Anyhow- I have a Washburn N4 (the Nuno Bettencourt Model) which I absolutely love. It's got a wide neck, not too thin, with jumbo frets. Any chance someone has played both and can tell me if they're comparable in any way?

They're that different? I played a few EBMMs at a musicshow last week and I didn't find the Pet neck to be hugely different from the Silo, although a tad thinner.

Thinner in what way, flatter or thinner accross the frets? Becuase I am OK with flat necks, I have a Wayne (Charvel)...and that's metal flat!

You didn't ask me, but I'm answering anyway.

It's narrow like that Axis, but also a thin profile like that jackson you mention... It's very close to an Ibanez Wizard neck...but better of course.

There is a drastic difference in neck feel between the JPs and the Silo (24 fret). Even tho theyre similar in setup, they feel totally different. The Silo neck is definitely beefier, whilst the JP neck is thinner and a lil' more narrow. If you love the Sub neck, then the Silo is where I'd go. Plus the Silo is more versatile in the tones you can achieve. Take this from a guy who loves his 3 JPs and Silo EQUALLY, theyre just different animals. It looks like the Silo is my main beeeyatch now for the new band as well....

If I were you, judging by your recent posts, you love the Silo.....go with another one. JP's are tonally the same. I have each one tuned differently. I happen to love my Pets, but, they are not tonally versatile as the Silo as OC mentioned. Of course, if you get a chance to play one....do it. You will then have tried one out and can justify getting one more easily than buying blind.

OC....getting close. I'm almost scared to try that silo of yours. Might wake up a different monster in me...hhehehehehhehhe
