Hello All.

I posted a few months ago when I was looking for a new bass rig that would give me extreme thick low ends for the reggae/rocksteady I am playing...I received a lot of good feedback that I was really appreciative of. I ended up sticking with my Ampeg SVT Classic w/ 8 x 10's.

In addition to the Stingray that I've had since about 1995 with a single humbucker I just purchased a Hohner 5 string headless. I was amazed that for a little under $1,000.00 (including improved pickups and preamp installed) the Hohner sounded way better than my Stingray!!!

I have been trying to get comfortable with the new Low B that has entered my life, but it's just not happening :( So...I've decided to sell both my Hohner and my Stingray and am going to purchase 1 new axe that I hope will send me to fatman bass player heaven...

Am I going to hear a BIG difference between the new stingray (with dual humbuckers) and my old stingray (with the single humbucker)? Obviously I have to play a new guitar before I purchase it but just wanted to get some opinions from you Ernie Ball enthusiasts.

I have also been reading about the Bongo. Is that the more fatman bass sound that I am looking for (compared to the Stingray)?

This might be an evil question, but does anybody have an opinion on the ever-so-famous Fender Bass? Are these guitars really that good? I know they are certainly popular. Many of the Reggae bass musicians that I have enjoyed over the years play Fenders...

Well, I would think a double humbucker model of any kind (Stingray, Sterling, or Bongo) would suit you just fine. The neck pickup should add some of that low end you seem to be longing for...

Just my $.02.
 
I think that a Bongo 4HH would be perfect for what you are looking for. Flats would help, but I don't think that they will be necessary.
 
Thanks a lot for the comments...I'm getting that most of you are suggesting the Bongo over the Stingray...nobody mentioned a damn thing about the Fender...was that poor taste of me to mention the F word on the Ernie Ball Forums? :eek:

Wold plump for either a bongo HC or the Stringray 5 HS
