iAMP 800 Experiment Comes To A Close

Well, I tried. This sucker weighs about twenty pounds (which I love) and is 800 watts (which I also adore) but I swear, the damned thing is just too clean and too transparent for me. I'm yanking it out of the rack and going back to the spine-compressing Sunn 1200s.

It's a pricey devil, so I don't expect many of you will be interested, but it is a great amplifier if what you want is clean, unadulterated power. This would also be a fabulous dual-purpose amp for those of you who play upright. In fact, it sort of makes my single hummer Bongo sound very upright-ish, but that's another story.

I don't even know what these retail for or sell for, but you lucky basstards could have this one for 950 plus shipping. I'm guessing that's a pretty good deal, considering it's got about four hours of use on it.

Gigged once, rehearsed with a handful of times - it's just like new.

Anyway, it's available if anyone wants or needs such a thing.

Hi Joel, I know a tiny bit about GK and from my experience the iAmp is waaay more flat. GKs are great but do have an upper mid push that makes them cut through so great in any mix but the iAmp is flat, weird to explain unless you've heard it.
It's an extremely good amp but I'm of the mind that colouration isn't so bad, I mean, Saint James' lines sound great and they in no way sound like a "pure" P-Bass tone, much is happenin' to sweeten up that sound

This is a really, really, really good deal, folks. I have heard this amp, and one of you lucky people needs to take advantage of Jack's insanity. I'd buy it if I weren't broke. Actually I'd buy a lot of crap if I weren't broke, but what I'm saying is, basically: This is a good deal.

If I were you, I would start going into amp whore mode, and just start wheeling and dealing until you find something that sounds killer without weighing a zillion pounds. There is something out there. In fact, I think you might fancy an Ashdown EVOII 600 quite a bit.

Have you tried a Thunderfunk yet?

I'm diggin' my T'funk. But with about half the power that Jack's Sunn amp has, I don't know if it has the power he wants. The Funk is also a very clean sounding amp, even with the tube emulator switch turned on. But, on the other hand, Jack, if your playing through a single 4x10 cab, the Funk will push it just fine.

I'm temped to take this amp off your hands, Jack.

Not sure that a mark will be too tremendously different. From what ive read,they both aim for the clean clean , uncolored tone.


I most likely will be getting an Iamp 500 as my next amp. Im not one for fingerstyle dirt in my tone. Any growl comes from the bass and some right hand technique.
