Idea for a "Special" Stingray........

I had this idea, and I wonder what some of you guys think............

Would you be interested if EB made a special stingray that had the normal stingray shape, but the body is contoured/carved like the Bongo? Thick in the middle like a normal stingray, but trailing off to thin on the edges of the body?

I love the sound of the bongo, but like many others, the shape is a hard sell for me, but I do love the contour of the body.

I have been sitting around looking at my new stingray almost as much as i have been playing it, it is wonderful. Then that idea jumped into my head............

Any thoughts? (have Big Poppa and the crew tried anything like this already?)

The Bongo voice seems to have broad popular appeal. The Bongo look seems to be:
A. An acquired taste.
B. Like a hammer toe on Miss Universe.
C. Immediately appealing to a small group of
folks with no aesthetic sensability at all.
D. All of the above.

Pick an option from the above, and join the elite, the Bongoistas, aka We-Who-Got-Over-It. You like the sound, you play it.

I play a Bongo cuz I wanted to play Tuba but I thought the Tuba was 'aesthetically challenged' and wrote to the Tuba builders asking them to shape it more elegantly, like a Grand Piano. Well the Tuba Builders told me to f*ckoff, which I interpretted as "I'll show THEM. I'll go buy an ugly bass that sounds even better than an ugly tuba, and they can keep that rat's nest of sewer pipes anyway". And we all lived happily ever after. YMMV.

All in the eye of the beholder, my friend. Tubas are a thing off beauty. The craftsmanship that goes into building one up is immense. Piano's, eh :rolleyes: , they look like coffins.

I'll agree with you maddog. Tubas and euphoniums are pretty cool looking instruments.

Sousaphones are kind of ugly though.

I'm kinda partial to Sousaphones after carrying one for 10yrs. A bit ugly but an elegant solution to adding some low-end to a marching band.
 
Maybe that's the appeal . . . . I too played Sousaphone/tuba for many years, albeit in the past . . . . .

I've seen the harnesses for carrying tubas in a marching band. In that application, sousaphones rock!

BTW - I've spent some time in a Drum and Bugle Corps. We use contra bugles. More like tubas than sousaphones.
 
Wouldn't mind an SR so contoured. Let's give it the Sterling neck while we're at it.

We can call it the ... Sturgeon.

I was a little into DCI back in my high school days (then I found out about music and beer in college). Contras are way cool.
