Imagine a two-pickup Sterling!

I've been playing my Sterling a lot lately, and I'm very impressed with all the different sounds you can get out of it--that little switch sure is powerful.

Imagine for a second, what I'd be like to have another pickup closer to the neck, with it's own H/S/P switch. Fender has been really successful with the Roscoe Beck bass, which has that sort of switching for two pickups, except on that bass, the change between settings really isn't that profound. On the Beck, you can flip switches all day long, and it still sounds basically the same. Not so with the Sterling!

Those of us that have played HH Bongo's know the power of a MM pickup towards the neck---it reminds me of a jazz bass neck pup with a lot of reinforcements. Think about all the sounds you could must out of two pickups, each with H/S/P switching, and a 3-band preamp!

Did the Sabre have any H/S/P options, or was it just a two-pickup bass? There ain't too many of those around, anywho.

The Sabre has the "jazz" neck like a Sterling, and the two pickups are phase switchable. Sabres with the 5 position lever switch enable each pup to be switched as single coil or humbucker, in any combination.

If you desire that kind of pickup config, set your sights on a Bongo HSP.

Bongo Hsp is a good choice...really cant go wrong with a Bongo.

I don't know the Sabre's history, but I do know that the Bongo is quickly catching on. It may be in certain circles, but it is definitely catching on. We've already seen a couple of big bassists flashing 'em around. Thus, I doubt the Bongo will be waving bye-bye anytime soon.

Well, I'm going to get a Bongo before too long anyways, but it'll probably be the HH config--I really like the sound of the neck h-bucker.

It's just fun to have lots of switches to twiddle with.

Oh, let me amend that---it's nice to have switches that actually do something! That switch on the Sterling definitly does.

I have a Sterling with a regular musicman pickup and a basslines jazz pick-up in the middle.. a very versitile sound.
