Mystic Dream is opaque, right? I haven't seen a shifting colour that's translucent.
I think this paint is based on light refraction. If it was a color stain it would probably have minimal to no refraction.
Edit:
Think of it this way... Translucent colors penetrate the wood and solid colors sit on top of the wood. So color changing paint is based on glass particles. I'm not sure glass particles could penetrate the wood to create this effect.
