Is there a sort of 'Send your EBMM to EB for cleaning/setup' type of program?

Hi everyone!

I'm a proud owner of 2 Balls. The first is turning 7 this year and I'd like to get it setup nicely again, just like it was on Day 1. It still plays like a million bucks, but I'd like to get it cleaned and checked out by the experts at EBMM.

In all honesty, I don't trust the guys at Guitar Center and believe they charge too much for their services, which have been known to not end so well. If I'm going to pay, I'd rather get it done by the "real" guys.

Another thing that sparked this question was - I noticed the bridge pickup was a bit weaker than the neck, so I opened it up for the 1st time ever and saw that the soldering was a little damaged (for lack of a better term).


Any thoughts?

I've done this a couple of times, and they've returned factory fresh. Just the other week I bought a beaten up Sterling that I had shipped to SLO for a full tune-up before it came up here.

Do you mind if I asked how much it cost? Is it a set fee or does it depend on the service (kinda like an automechanic)?
 
Call customer service and let them know what you need specifically. Then they can let you know around what it will cost.
 
They charge an hourly bench fee, so it somewhat depends what's needed. Plus any parts if needed, etc. As JayDawg says, they can give you an estimate.

Their work is stellar, though.

I was going to ask that also. The stock response would be "Take it to your local dealer". I took both my Luke's in for full refrets at my local-ish dealer in Doncaster, and the guy there, Stuart Palmer did a really fantastic job. However I'd be keen to have EBMM themselves have a proper look at the guitars in terms of general setup and condition.

You could send your instrument to San Louis Obispo but you'll pay the full shipping cost yourself (fully insured, with tracking). Expensive.

First get in contact with your regional distributor and see if they offer a service or if they will recommend a music store/luthier/tech near you who can do it. Also ask the professional musicians in your country who they trust with their instruments. I'm the only person I trust with my instruments so If you live near me there is a lot that I can do but I'm not setup for bigger jobs (like refrets or broken necks). If you need that kind of work done, I can recommend some excellent people in Paris.

Thank you for the hints and of course the nice offer (unfortunately Paris is way too far from me). A known bass guitar manufacturer is close to me (still at NAMM actually) and I'm sure he'll get the fret job done, I'll give it a try. ...I know it's crazy but all I fear is to loose some of the neck's "magic" if someone else than EBMM puts hands on it.
