I have a bass (premium non-EBMM instrument) that is incredibly bright sounding. Add in the fact that it also puts out a really hot signal and I've got a tweeter workout machine on my hands.

What I'm after is comparison info on nickel rounds or coated rounds. I'm familiar with Slinkys and Super Slinky in nickel. Do the coated strings have any tendency to be darker sounding than their non-coated cousins once broken in?

I do have EQ and I've got a fairly decent idea of how to use it. The problem is in getting a good balance sound with this bass. If I reduce treble to tame the beast, it's overly easy to end up with a murky sound. Kind of a knife edge, if you know what I mean.

Thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks!

Ken...

In my experience, the coated bass sound a little warmer than regular nickel wound bass strings. It might be worth a shot to try out a set. :D
