... you know, the "thing" that hinges just behind the nut. Is it a dampening device ????? :confused: :confused: :confused:

I think it's the same type of unit used by that shred-o-holic Michael Angelo Batio who plays the double neck Dean. I beleive it's designed to dampen the strings while guitarists can shred to their heart's content:D :D
 
It's for muting the strings while she does her 8 finger technique. Normally we use our picking hand to do that (especially with distortion) but it frees her up when using that technique.

If I think I know what you are talking about then it may be what some people use to clean up on whilst playing, so that unintentional bad notes aren't as audible...the only downside is, no open chords!
 
Guthrie Govan is one incredible guitarist. I checked out a couple of his video demo clips online and that guy is simply amazing:eek:

I have a DVD of Guthrie playing live from NAMM, the guy is as good as it gets.
 
It is a string dampener, specially designed for when she does multiple finger tapping.

I saw her at a clinic a few months ago, and that question definitely came up.
 
i saw a dave martone clinic (he was slinging parker guitars) about 2 years ago. He uses a black hair hairband on his Parker.

It works quite well as you can slide it up and down the neck quickly.

BTW, who here really wants hair like hers ?

I really enjoy Dave Martone's playing. Got a chance to be in his class he teaches for a few days at the National Guitar wokshop a couple years back.

great player, excellent teacher (though admittedly, I'm not the best pupil) and he's a very nice guy to hang out with too.

BTW Dave pushes his hair band left of the nut when he's not using it so it doesn't dampen strings. But he taps a lot with very melodic results.

Haven't seen Jennifer.

I do the same thing. I stole the idea from victor wooten after seeing the flecktones live in 95'. (cough... back when they were good... cough....)

Still good. Just different w/o Howard levy. They've really gone jazzy on the Hidden Lands released 2/14.

If Bela and the Flecktones were in town the same night as The Steve Morse band and both were only playing that 1 show, that would be a very tough decision.

I'd probably end up choosing Bela as I've only seen him around 6X and steve around 25X

humm... I originally said that as a joke, but I was talking to a friend of mine today and I really, honestly don't think the stuff they're putitng out now, really, truly, matches up to the first 3 albums. once levy departed, the "3 flew over..." album - for me - set the tone for the downward spiral that their new material has turned into. come on; shawn colvin guest vocaling on that one album... and roy's singing?? UFOTOFU is pretty much where the flecktones catalog stops for me. I had some hopes with "outbound" but they were completly dashed when I saw them live supporting the album. the sax guy creates this element of "weirdness" that it seems like the rest of the group is constantly pushing to keep up with. the original "formula" - which admittedly had its own pitfalls (eg: hippo sounding very much like the self titled debut) but I truly prefered it. "little worlds" was just simply TOOO long and TOOO much of a stretch - why do they feel the need to attempt to be the new phish?

yep. flecktones... wait... what were we talking about again?

don't ya just love it when you watch guitarists play and they look like they are doing it effortlessly ?
