John Petrucci plays an Axis???

I think they do those in a Platinum room. I'm sure that Axis is part of that room's normal stock.

There are quite a few different guitars in the background if you look at the James Hetfield interview.


I'm pretty sure that's the case with most of the GC interviews.

Great, myth debunked. I was hoping that he was a closet Axis guy. Lol. Great interview, though.
 
Oz it may not be the Axis in the pic (well there is no pic lol) but I guarantee Petrucci owns an- Axis- Luke- Al- and- Morse, just as I would believe the other sig endorsed artist own at least one of each others models. In the post above mine forum member (BrosphsMystic80) just confirmed that JP stated in an interview that he used an Axis to record a song on the last album. Nothing shocking there as many artist use different guitars when recording (especially for rhythm tracks).

He used an axis (and mesa transatlantic) on The Looking Glass and Along for the Ride.

There are two big differences, one is the guitar. That's the one song on the album on which I didn't use my signature guitar, I used a Music Man Axis. My tech Maddi [Matt 'Maddi' Schieferstein] had his Music Man at the studio and it was the Eddie Van Halen model from back when Eddie endorsed Music Man guitars. It has like a 12-inch radius, 22 frets, Floyd Rose, but every time Maddi would look at me I was playing that guitar. So I called up Music Man who have been so good to me over the years, and they made me one, the difference being they routed the body so the bar could pull back.

"So they sent it to me and I really wanted to use it on the album

Edit 2: I also remember a jp13 with a roasted maple neck and a floyd, John used it for the solo of Surrender to Reason I think. If I remember correctly, the jp13 has an axis neck profil , 22 frets. There is pics but I can't find them.

I would not be surprised if his personal collection includes some Fenders and Gibsons. Yeah you would never see him playing those in public but just like any guitar guy, I'm sure he appreciates a great guitar whether is a EBMM or not.

yup, and that's the roasted maple neck on John's JP13 that started the insanity! :) there is much love for the Axis. Every guitar player should have one in their arsenal. Same rule applies if you'd rather prefer the HH AL.
