Question JP-X fingerboard edges

The fingerboard edges on my JPX are noticeably sharper than the edges all all my other EBMM guitars (including the standard JP6)

Is that possibly due to ebony as the fingerboard material? It isn't comfortable like my others, to the point of digging into my hand.

I am contemplating my next guitar. With a great collection and my age, it may be my last and I want it to be very special. The JP15 and L3 BRF Hazelburst are the two contenders. I'd like to lean towards the 15 if the fingerboard didn't have sharp edges like the X....
 
It may have to do with the ebony. I played both the JP15 and BFR L3 at NAMM and the necks are amazing, no sharp edges on either. The BFR L3 is my next guitar because of the neck profile being more my speed. Though the JP15 is the first JP that I am seriously considering... It plays that nice.
 
I can´t answer your question but how about selling the JPX and buying another two? It may sound rude but why bother with a guitar that doesn´t fit the way you want?

I have indeed thought about that. Shame, I bought it new and its hardly been played at all. And it sounds incredible, I just feel like I fight with.

3 JPXs reporting with no fretboard issues ;)

Any piece of wood can contract and expand revealing more fret ends, Ebony isn't more prone to doing that than other ones. In fact the only thing Ebony is prone to is cracking when the weather is dry and not humid.

Its not really the fret ends, they have always been great. Its more that the edges of the fingerboard are a sharp right angle with no roll.
 
I have two ebony board ebmms (Axis and Luke) and neither has uncomfortable edges.

What about gently rolling the edges of the fretboard with some sandpaper? I got my Albert Lee HH used, and it appears that a previous owner did that to it. When I first played it I thought, "This is the most comfortable neck ever", then I noticed the rolled edges. At first I was bummed, but he did a nice job of it and it feels very good.
 
Not a bad idea Tollie. The fingerboard sides are finished though.

Maybe I just need to play the guitar a bunch and wear it down!!!

Yes, you have a very well rounded collection. What is this advanced age of which you speak?
 
Personally I would leave the fretboard edge as it is. Why? Well a "Risk" may be that you could encounter the E string(s) slipping off the edge at times. I'm not saying it will, but it is a risk. You'll get used to it I'm sure.
