is it normal that my jp6 with pickup in middle position(split) sounds bad with lead channel,in particular on the G string??maybe split coil is made only for cleans?

Depends what you mean by "bad". Perosnally, I quite like it. Has a nice stratty type Brian Mayish quality to it which just adds to the instruments versatility for me.

Well, I personally don't like the single coil sound for anything but clean, but of course, "bad" would be a personal opinion as well. I highly doubt there is something wrong with it.

I actually really like it. Through my Krank it sounds like someone tearing your throat out. It grinds and cuts through the mix quite well, something excellent for rhythms although not all that great for leads.

it seems like my G string is buzzing on the frets or something like that.
i have tried my strat in middle position and this strange sound on the G string is similar.

Have you tried this configuration while playing in a mix? Some single coil tones are not very exciting solo but really cut and come to life when in a mix. I don't think these guitars have any bad sounds, just diverse and lend themselves to different applications.

The JP's are no one-trick ponies!

mmmm. i get the same feelling if i use lot's of gain. sounds way muddy. but i'm not using tubes atm and so the output difference does NOT clear it up up bit. but in general i find that using a bit op compression before the distortion helps bring out the chunkyness with less gain(ie:less gain is the way to go).

IMO, this middle position with the singles sounds the best with medium gain or less. Mild overdive is the best setting. The BFR push pull holds up better under higher gain.

Agree with Lou. Can't give it too much gain, although it's great for chunky single-note fast rhythm sections like in the middle of "Strange Deja Vu"... Love it.

Can't use it for leads, though, it doesn't cut enough.

I didn't really notice a change in sound going to the G string but it may be the way I play. I probably tend to concentrate on the top 3 strings (or 4 on my 7 string) for that particular setting, so I'm not really hitting it anyway.

If you're having frett buzz maybe turn the screws an 8th of a turn on that string? A little bit goes a long way back there.

There are two little allen screws on either side of the saddle which you can use to raise or lower it. I'd go *very* easy on that. You'll also have to re-intonate the string.

I just got my first experience with my new JP last night. The middle position seems to be a pretty good impression of the number 4 position on a strat. I like it for blues and certain clean tones. It really adds to the value of the guitar for me and substantially increases the versatility of the instrument.
