swear to god i had that feeling tonight
i had this horrible gig at this party of some high sociaty ppl.

and it was so baaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddd i just wanted to f+++++ kill my self i didnt want to be there at all.....

i couldnt beleive i was even there i wanted to go home so badly
you know when you get that home sick feeling right out of the blue kind of thing?
that was the feel!!!!

Hey.. My wife is a solo artist and gigs 3-4 days a week she has been through everything and when a gig sucks or is falling apart we can always fit it into a "spinal tap" moment .........

Then we can laugh about it on the way home or next day and plan the next gig!

This happens to everyone!

oh man ... ive thought about quitting a bazillion times. it can get frustrating as hell. Ive always considered being in a band as "asking for voluntary stress".

I dont play for a living but im usually in a band and sometimes it just kills me! hell, sometimes just writing songs at home stresses the hell out of me: "dammit, this isnt good enough" ... "eh, what goes after this riff". etc.

my band is a punk rock band and were based in San Francisco ... we're all day job guys and between 28 - 38 years old. We practice and practice, book a gig, drag all our stuff out to the club, get ready and 8 people show up. LoL. it happens ... sucks. sometimes I think we could get a pony keg and just invite people to our rehersal space instead. LoL

but then we'll have a badass gig. nice venue, nice sound system and 200 people show up and there's a lil mosh pit n stuff and everyone walks up after the set to say "hi" etc.

playing the music we play in SF is hard. Punk rock's not well received in SF anymore. everyone's a hipster now and too "cool" for punk rock so they listen to indie/emo stuff and go to shows and stand in a corner with their arms folded. LoL its true.

My friend Mike played for a band called the Enemies. They were signed to Lookout! Records (huge bay area punk label that Green Day etc started on). Theyre all super good: drummer played for the UK SUbs on the side, bassit played in Neurosis and later Mike played guitar for Green Day's last tour ... anywho. I thought theyre the best band id heard in years ... i could only wish to be in a band that awesome. Id go to their gigs and i swear on some weekend gigs like 20 or 30 people would show up. pretty rediculous considering how damn good they were.

anywho ... ya, its tough and frustrating man but theres those badass gigs that make it all worth any ammount of BS

We had a gig last weekend (which is rare for us), and my bass player butchered a new song that I wrote and was very proud of.. and eager to perform.

It's a long song, around 8 minutes when played at proper tempo. And that night it was the longest 8 minutes of my life.

I'm over it now, but I sure felt like being anywhere except that stage as we tortured that song.

Man doing this for 30 years, 22 of them hard road years there is a trick to it, It's call TIME OFF, you need to take a Year off, clear your head and you'll come back better all around.

About 5 years ago I got so sick of playing the same old bollocks that I told the band to start looking for a replacement for me. I put my basses away and locked myself in the bedroom with a synth! I hardly touched my basses. I sat around making wannabe Kraftwerk records! Best move I ever made! Now I only do the odd fill in gig. And I am quite happy. Bad gigs come with the territory. I had some that I literally turned away from the audience and hung my head for the entire night! Gotta let it go!

I'll say this much. I'd love to be where you're at right now. I can't even play guitar well enough to run through a complete song.
Don't do it for anyone, but yourself. If you love music, if you love playing guitar, then don't give up. Hell, don't give up no matter what. You can take a break; that's different and it might be what you need to refresh yourself. BUT, don't quit!
Now, if after a good break you realize that perhaps your heart is not into it and you honestly want to persue other things, then yes, a career change may be in order. But again, I'd love to trade places with you as would thousands of other people who may not show up to every show, but definitely respect what you do.
