We all love our basses (I love my SR5). Since this forum is sponsored by EB, I believe it is our not only right but a duty to inform these wonderful guys about our small and probably personal nitpicks, so that they'll perhaps consider some of them worthy of fixing/improving.

So, for a while let's forget how great our basses and tell about our complaints...

Here are mine (for my SR5):

1) The knobs are too stiff.
2) 3-way lever switch is also too stiff and I would like a mini-switch better.

Damn, I can't find anything else..
 
for my musicman sub:

1) that god-awful pickguard, gives me shudders...
2) the finish - somedays i wake up and look at it and just have this urge to sand it down and put a proper finish on it. but then, after playing with my sweaty hands and bumping it into things wif nasty edges, and come off without a scratch or a fingerprint, i thank ernie for what he did to it...

HOWEVER, despite these criticisms, i'm SOOOO glad that released this model, otherwise i'd be stuck wif a MIM fender or something, and i'd rather not dwell on that thought, thank you very much...cheers Ernie Ball!
 
I'm still coming to terms with the ridge on the edge of the Bongo pickups, after planting my thumb on Stingray pups for a few years.

Not really something that EB could address.
 
The only think I would change on the new SR4s, is I would like EB to bring back the matte black pickguard. The glossy black guard gets scratched too easily. Other than that, nothing. btw, I love the three way switch on the SR5; heavy duty! Mini toggles are too easy too break.
 
expensive. maybe thats just becuase i have no money and a very crappy job. the only thing i could say from experience that i dont like is how the head stock is finished and there is a visible line where the finish ends and the unfinished neck ends. if there were a fade of some sort that would awesome, but would probably take alot of time to do. i dont reall care but that would be my complaint. i have another but ill keep that to myself. :)
 
my experience is limited. I have only had one Stingray - I have been playing it for three years.I put a lot of time on that bass.It is a very well conceived instrument.I like the little things like the quick battery change and the tapered string posts that show the thought behind the instrument.It is a mature design and yet they did round off the pickup poles recently - it is still evolving. It would be nice to be able to adjust each pickup pole separately. I also like the active/passive option that G&L's have. I don't really have any other suggestions for improvement but there are some Stingray features that I would love to see on other instruments.
 
I can think of nothing to change on my SR 5. Dang sure no improvements could be made to it. Well other than the player.

WHat complaints do I have about my Stingray? NONE. Lightest bass I've ever owned. Sounds like every other Ray I've ever played. Has the most comfortable birdseye maple neck I've ever seen, and the most beauitful. You people need a life. Hooray for Ernie Ball!
 
Oh, mighty staff that creates EB/MM basses, please allow one very minor view to be expressed:
The 'Ray is a Historic bass, 2nd only to a P-bass....
My Sterling was one of the best sounding basses EVER...
The Bongo's are state-of-the-art whether you like the look or not...

MM basses are virtually flawless, and along with G&L's, are the absolute finest small -factory production basses made, as good as ANY bolt-on at ANY price, and much better than most, period.

....But I don't like pickguards . Don't use a pick, think they look lame, and feel that a 'Ray, Steling, or Bongo would look MUCH better without 'em, especially with the excellent finishing work you do. The clear guards that Bass Central offers are good news, but you still get a bunch of screws encircling the body....

That's my .02.....everything else is all top-notch.

At least that makes two of us. If i had the $$$, I really would own one of every model, and p/u config. Maybe one day.
