I would like to change the pick up in my sss silo with somthing that sounds like the pick ups in the axis.
Looking for a single coil sized "axis" pick up

Throw away the Silo and buy another one with humbuckers.

I thought the route in the silo special was HSS so that they could accomodate both config, you just had to buy a new pickguard... I'm probably wrong

hmmmm to be quite honest i havent even opened it up yet!
hey Silhouette... ha ha yeah right! My other silo is a HSS. I had a few pick ups lying around and for the price i got it for i figured i could experiment, i have a Little screaming deamon, a cool rails, a hot rails and a Pro track witch on paper looks promising... i wanted to see if anyone had found a good one

It is an SSH route inside the cavity so you can just swap in a HB. But you'll have to route your pickguard or buy another one (Chandler, eBay, etc.) too- so factor that into the cost.
I put a Bill Lawrence 450 into mine (then sold it to Raz). I like the Bill Lawrence 500L - it's the best rock pickup out there for me.
The big question is what do you want it to sound like- and do you want to split the coils to mix with the single (like the SSH silo does)? If you don't split it and get too hot a brige PU it won't mix well with the singles and you'll lose the quack. If you do split it you'll need to re-work the wiring on the toggle switch when you install it. Also, you'll have to take the silent circuit off on the bridge position. So a few finicky things to think about.

What i would really want is a PAF tone. I have a 1983 Yamaha SGB1000 that sounds like the end of world (in a good way 
) I know i should have gone for an axis but the Silo just sits so well and feels fantastic... soooo...
And actually the guy i bought it from had all the wirring redone so the tone pot is a push/pull to turn on the bridge pick up at all tmes...

Cool- then this would be a fun project! Again, I'd suggest a Lawrence 500. With a small capacitor and resistor added you'll get the PAF tone (but much better). (Warning- if you get one buy it direct, not from ebay, etc. Lots of fakes out there and a new one is $50 or so.)
But really, if you've got a few spares you like I'd wire one in and see. You can always change the sound dramatically with a few cents worth of resitors & caps rather.

I have an L500L, 2 L280 set on my strat... Although very good, they sound a little too "open" and besides i would not want to cut the guard... I will see if it is routed for HSS !

Cool! Ok- I'm a bit confused- you don't want to cut the guard ... but you want to put in a HB, right? Or did you want a stacked single coil or something instead? That's another option.

I think you better talk more about the sound or artists you like or you want to get...
Get yourself a Dimarzio Chopper in the bridge.
Slightly hotter than a PAF sound with great bass response (like the Axis pickups), not too open sounding but still having a breath of single coil to it.
Sounds exactly what you're after to me.

Wouldn't you freakin' know it! it is a Hss rout!?!? Something is weird though. The pick guard has a price attached to it....replacement guard? Kevin ran the number and it comes out as an axis!?!? The silent circuit is gone! pick ups are 4 conductor "single coils" At the moment, i put in a Pro track i had. Like i said i have a little screaming deamon a might try... bow!

Tim hit the nail on the head. The DiMarzio Tone Zone will be closest to the pup installed in the Axis, this is stated on the DiMarzio site. They now do a single coil sized version called the Tone Zone S.
