Hello all, long time lurker who's poised on entering the family. I've fallen in love w/ the Luke Model and know that's what I want. There are a few on ebay right now but there is one I'm looking at specifically but have some questions.

It's white w/ matching headstock and piezo in mint condition. The current and only bid is 999.99 even though it's been on the bay since the 15th w/ over 350 views. Is the price too high already? Are people put off by the color (I've noticed other Luke's w/o the piezo option being bid on for about the same price)? If the price is low will the bidding heat up the last day? In other words I'm a ebay novice and I don't want to get ripped off so could anyone pm me what you think a legit bid should be? Thanks
 
I think the current price is reasonable for a piezo luke but usually the serious bidding starts a few hours before the end of the auction... Keep an eye on it you never know... As for what a legit bid should be, check the price of ended auctions for a similar instrument. It might give you an idea of the price these go for on the used market.

A fellow convert to the LUKE....

Funny you posted that today about falling in love with the Luke. I just got back from GC here in Danvers MA, they had the only Luke within a couple hours of Boston so I went down and finally played it. I've played nearly all the other EBMM in thier model lineup and for me, the Luke is the best of them all. That guitar strikes an excellent, if not the BEST balance of features and functionality I've ever seen in a modern guitar. I have avoided the Luke due to it's "V" style neck for sometime, especially after reading some reviews on Harmony Central about tuning problems and other stuff. BULLS$#T. The funny thing about the neck is that its nothing like the Clapton style "V" neck or similiar ones, which made my hands hurt when I tried them. Not so on the Luke, seems to fit my hands effortlessly. I will say this though. The Luke definitely needs to be set up in a very precise way, more so than say the SILO or JP or some others, but only because (IMO) its the best way to bring out all the nuances of this instrument. It's very understated I guess you would say, it does not just jump out and grab you, hard to explain. Also, the pickups add so much more to the tone of the guitar, it overall just really surprised me in a good way. Anyways welcome to the forums and hope you pick one up soon, I am defintely ordering this bad boy soon.

Necks on Lukes differ a bit from guitar to guitar. If I played one in a store and fell in love with the feel, I'd think long and hard about buying it.

My favorite playing/feeling luke was the one I found in GC back in summer '02....And almost returned after my special order Luke was delivered.
 
I have no regrets in buying mine. Its so versatile and easy to play. My favorite models are the SM-Y2D and the Luke (about a tie). Followed by the Axis and Petrucci's. I haven't played the other models yet though.

I hear ya but it's not like anyone stocks these guitars so you can just drive down and try one out on a regular basis...maybe thats just out here in Boston. I was lucky to find the one I did at GC, which I had to drive 56 miles to get to. If I do order one, and it sucks it will get returned. I have great faith in EBMM however, since my current Silos have been perfect, and they are twins except for the piezo. LATE...

some of the crap on harmony central defies belief. you really just get confused reading the reviews, some are way off the mark. Rarely do i read a luke review that i agree with. This "pronounced v " crap annoys me. try a real 50's strat or the custom shop clapton, that is a real V! nothing like the magnificent soft luke v. its sooo comfy. sometimes i think people write reviews without playing the guitar in question, which seems odd. thats how they come across anyway.
 
Your right about those HC reviews robelinda, they are a waste of time really. They basically helped me AVOID buying an instrument without even playing it. The Luke is something else, funky but functional and beautiful. Speaking of funky, go here :http://www.melodicrock.com/interviews/stevelukather04.html and read Lukather's interviews. Really interesting and funny, sometimes you dont know weather to laugh or cry but he's really interesting. Later all...
 
The great thing about that crazy ass interview is that it's the Los Angeles/SoCal slang that comes out. I talk like that too, which is even funnier because after I started laughing at that interview I was like, Wait, I am FROM Los angeles...Now I know why my wife always pokes fun at my slang. Although, he MUST have had a few drinks because he was flying all over on that interview. Funny SHEET. LATE
