Hi forumites! I own a couple of Luke 2's and for my hands the neck is a perfect fit. I've been thinking about getting an L3 but no one in my area has one to test out in person. I thought I would come on the forum and ask the Luke owners who own both the Luke2 and L3, or at least luke players who've played an L3 this: Is the neck profile on the L3 the same soft v shape as on the Luke2? Thanks in advance!

Yes, same neck. Get one, you'll love it!!!!!
I know what you mean as far as a perfect fit. The soft V is great for sitting perfectly right between your index and thumb for wrenching down on bends or for pivoting your thumb on.

Aside from the fact you are in Phoenix, not Nashville, are you Neil morse? You really look like him

The specs are the same, but from my experience ( I own both L2 and L3 ) the rosewood neck of L3 feels different - bigger and chunkier. Took some time to get used to that and everytime I switch between L2 and L3 feel significant difference.Personally I prefer the size and feel of L2 but some other guys here love the new one. Overall, superb instrument but better try before you pull the trigger.

My experience is the same as look_at_her - my Luke 3's neck feels a little bigger and not quite as V-pronounced. Unlike look_at_her - I like the Luke 3 much better. It (L3) is the most comfortable neck I have ever played on.

I think it the hand sanding to each neck. My L3 HSS neck is slightly bigger than my L3 HH.

I agree with the hand sanding comment and think it may have something to do with the wood. My experience with the LII models with maple necks is that the v is fairly pronounced. However, models I own that have rosewood necks - LIII, True Gold Luke, etc., the v is much less pronounced. The v is still there on my guitars, it's not a c shape, but it's not as dramatic as I've found with the LIIs with maple necks.

I also wouldn't describe the neck as "bigger" unless you mean that there is a less pronounced v.

YMMV

Personally, I like the softer v much, much better.

I like the pronounced V better, the HH gave me a cramp almost lol

i've never owned a luke with exactly the same neck
on my LIII HH the neck seems the bigger i've owned and it's more round than v shape but the best i've played
i remember my second Luke 1 have the smallest i've played more thin and v shaped

Good to know, I thought the person I bought mine from sanded it down.

at first i've thinking do that but now i can say that is perfect like that i'm just a little afraid when i'll have my HSS version : how will be his neck ? i wish i could set up it like the other and he have a "normal" truss rod mine it's very hard to move but move .....

That's been my experience as well. Of the three Lukes that I've owned they all feel a bit different but still have a fairly consistant overall v shape. My 2008 has a more pronounced v while the 2010 is a little softer.........hmm......I should probably wait until I can play one before I take the plunge.......or just get one of these and be done with it lol

Variety is the spice if life. Enjoy the variances and don't get caught up in trying to make sure it'll be exactly the same.

I was going to swap the necks between my II and III to see which combination I preferred. Then I realised the matching headstock would not be 'matching' when swapped lol

ok and the winner is.........neither lol!
I ordered another Luke 2 but in Sapphire Black...not in candy red as originally intended. According to the dealer I should see it by early April :O .....pangs of longing anticipation and sweaty palms have already started! I plan on waiting to test out an L3and if I like it I will grab one later this year..I also wanted to wait to see if it'll be available in other colors....wasn't completely sold on the 2 colors it comes in now.
Thanks for the input everyone and I'll be sure to post pics when it hits.
