Luke Neck?

This is my first post on this awsome forum. I'm primarily a PRS player but I am considering an EB Music Man after being so impressed by the build quality & feel of the necks, esp. the Axis.

I am interested in the Luke model. Can anyone tell me about the neck?

Many sites mention that its a hard V. I have played the Fender Eric Clapton & Jimmy Vaughan which have V necks. How does it compare?

Welcome to the forum zyx345! As to the Luke neck, it's completely unique among EB/MM necks, imho... When they say sharp V, they mean SHARP! I've never played a neck that was this V shaped in back - more so than any Strat neck I've tried, including the Clapton... I let mine go because I ultimately found the neck to be too small for me to play comfortably - and I own five Axes (note for newbies: the plural of Axis is Axes ) and think the Axis neck is the best neck EB/MM make. But - of course - you really have to try one for yourself before can decide... as I've mentioned here before, I do regret letting my Luke go, and hope I can find another one day.

it's pretty sharp alright...

I think it is starting to hurt my hand. seriously, right behind the knuckle on my left thumb. it's pretty disheartening, because it feels SO awesome. I am consciously trying to adjust my left hand position. If I can't find relief, I may look into an Axis and sell the Luke.

Not all Lukes are exactly the same, some Vs are "sharper" than others. I'd shop around and compare a little bit. I did, until i found "the one".

Hard to believe a Luke would cause pain in your thumb, maybe examine your hand position. Or try a lighter touch. You shouldn't be hurting when you play!

My Luke was a killer deal. Once in a lifetime kinda thing, and I played it about 10 minutes before I bought it, so the first impressions were that it was just a killer neck, and the guitar sounded fantastic..may as well buy it.

I have altered my thumb position slightly...it's one more thing to worry about while I play, and I have been playing for so dang long it going to be hard teaching an old dog new tricks.

Lighter touch? I wish..lol..I wish I had ANY touch!

Man, I hear ya. I had tendonitis a few years ago and had to change everything technique wise. You can do it, it's just gonna suck for awhile!

Its an incredibly sharp V. But cool though. If you're not used to it, its a very alien neck to play on, a lot of my friends have said its very hard to play.

I'd recommend it though, such a quality versatile instrument!
