Hey gang -
Been putzin' around w/my new Luke for the last week and diggin' the rockin'-ness of it! Something familiar is haunting me, tho....the lack of high end sparkle on both the humbucker and the singles compared to their passive brethren. As I've mentioned in a previous post, the singles in this set do seem to have more highs than the SA's I've used in the past, but still, there's that extra wiry edge like with my beloved MM90s and other skinny single coils that's missing and it sorta bugs me after a while.
Admittedly, I did get a pseudo-surfy semi-twang sound out of it after a bit of tweaking, but it seemed like it took more work than it should have - I kinda had to resort to putting the ol' virtual EQ pedal in my Boss FX unit in most every config I came up with, which I'm not a huge fan of doing, and it still didn't completely solve the issue.
Anyone here modified their Luke or other EMG-ed guitar with any of their add-on circuits, like the RPC (high frequency booster) or the EXG (expander/mid cut)? Thinking one of these might help, esp. if employed with one of their concentric pots...anyone done this? FYI, I've used their SPC presence boost control (a misnomer, since it boosts mids) with my old SA-ed strat, and it worked great for that, but I'm wanting to go in the other direction...
Any input from you EMG fanatics is greatly appreciated!
