Massive Steve Morse Rig Rundown

Awesome rig rundown! Thanks for posting! Steve is my all time favorite musician and I never tire of hearing about his approach, technique, and gear. I was saddened to hear about his wrist issues at 28:30 but, in typical Morse fashion, he has a totally positive attitude and is working around them -- and still sounding as fantastic as ever.
 
I listened to that while driving tonight - didn't mind the traffic at all with that in the background! :)

thanks for this. does anyone want to spec out a diagram how Steve uses his volume pedals with the flashback so that only the volume controls the amount of delay? I've been trying to do this but only found that the flashback x4 or other similar units have an expression extension, but the reg size flashback do not. He said in his rig rundown, that it is what he does. Perhaps Tommy can shed some light to this? I'd truly appreciate any info.

There are volume pedals after each delay pedal and placed through a mixer before routing back into the amp. This allows him to using the volume pedal to bring in the delay sound. The delays are 100% wet, meaning that only the delay single is coming out of the pedal -- no dry signal. The mixer is how this is achieved.

Yep ... the key is that you need a mixer with pedals that don't take an expression pedal.

I'm doing a similar thing with a DD20- output to a volume pedal, then into an RJM mixer.
 
Sorry for the thread resurrection; but I just watched this for the 10th time. I just noticed that the bridge pickup in his #1 is not a DiMarzio Steve Morse bridge humbucker (DP200). Anyone know what it is?

I'm not sure those existed in 1987 when #1 rolled off the line? Somebody elucidate! :)

Hi Butch,
good observation. Looks like another Bridge-HB. I wondered if it was always like this and nobody noticed, but on other pics it looks like a regular DP200

Maybe I missed it, but with the SS frets, did he switch the neck? It looks roasted

Yes he did. After I don´t know how many refrets it seemed that the old neck couldn´t cope with one more. He played some other Standard Morses for a while and then #1 re-appeared with a new neck. I think the story was told here somewhere
