My first Axis is a Sport with the pick guard, and I really like the look and the protection it gives the finish from pick scratches. I called Ernie Ball and they told me that Chandler makes the pick guards for both the old Axis Sport and for all their basses and guitars that have pick guards. I called Chandler and they custom made the guard that I have on the MM90. I was not going to drill holes in the Super Sport and the guy at Chandler recommended that I put it on with a couple of small pieces of carpet tape which can be removed without hurting the finish. I also changed the cream colored P90 covers and knobs with the black. I ordered these parts, from Ernie. I have to say this is the best guitar I have ever been blessed with, and the P90's are great sounding pickups. I also had Chandler send a new guard for my Sport S/S/H, it was showing a good bit of wear.

wow! I like the look of that. I like the fact that mine has direct mount pickups, I never thought of getting a guard that the pickups didn't sit in. i'm mulling it over now though. How much for the guard?

They had never done the MM90 before, so it was $41.00 because they did not have a template for the pick up placement. Chandler spoke to Ernie Ball and found out it is the same placement as the Albert Lee with the P90’s. The cost for my Axis Sport S/S/H was $26.00. The shipping and handling from CA to GA was $8.00 for the pair. Chandler did a great job. They are located in Chico Ca. Phone 530-899-1503. www. pickguardheaven.com

So do they have it on file or something now? I have the same style Axis as yours, only ash body/rosewood board. My Axis is purple w/ matching headstock. I'm thinking black, maybe pearloid purple or black. Too gawdy?

I would assume they would keep a template of the guards they produce. If you call, they are very helpful. I went with the black to match the cover and knobs, I also thought it would work with the black lettering on the headstock. I went with the mat finish, this is what came standard on the Axis Sports that had pick guards. I did a black pearloid on a bass that I had, and really like it.
