hi, my friend and i had a small arguement, such that he belived the name "JPM" could be used interchangebly with the ib*nez JPM, and the EBMMJP.

see, i think the answer lies within that last sentance. "JPM" isnt what people call the "other brand" guitar, thats the model name. i dont belive they could have the same name. the name "JPM" is the "other brand's" model name for the guitar, so the EBMM version has to be different (from my understanding).

so my real question is:

what exactly is the real model name, for the MMJP? "MMJP", "EBMMJP", "jp6" (jp7?).

please, i do NOT want this to be a flamefest, a comparison of guitars, or anything along those lines. im only looking for the official name of the EBMMJP.
 
Actually this is a cool question.

So I went to the web sight under the instruments page and the only reference to the guitar you mentioned is a squiggly line that represents John Petrucci's signature. Then on the product registration page

I found what I think you are looking for. Under the type of instruments they are listed as:
John Petrucci 6 String
John Petrucci 7 String


There you go. That sounds official to me.

Within the walls of EB/MM, we call them "Petruccis" or "JPs". If I were to write an article about them, I'd call them the "Music Man John Petrucci signature model", in "6- and 7-string versions". I've heard people refer to them as "JPM"s, but I take that as an acronym for "John Petrucci Model". When people are talking to ME about the Petrucci model, of course I will only assume that they mean Music Man's, duh.

Therefore, "JPM" seems generic and can be applied to ours or the other guitar manufacturer's. For internet shorthand, I would use "MMJP" for ours and "IJP" for the others. If you use "JPM" it seems you would have to specify which manufacturer. In that case, you could say "MMJPM" or "IJPM". For as long as it takes me to think about that acronym, however, I could have typed out "Music Man John Petrucci Model" on my own, hahahaha
