Music Man SS nut question

This question is for you guys that know, have taken off a nut or knows someone that has and that someone told you. Is the Silhouette Special nut flat bottomed or curved?

I can confirm that if it is a compensated nut it is flat bottomed - I just had one replaced. Not sure about the nuts that were used prior to compensated ones.
 
Thanks DRkev and mikeller - I have a spare comp nut and knew it was flat with a post in the middle, I should have specified, non-compensated. Is the non-comp nut curved or flat bottom.

I have a JP6 with 4th and 5th string nut slots that are too low. Where did you have your compensated nut replaced? Thanks.

I purchased the compensated blank from Music Man support - and had a local, very skilled guitar tech replace it. Whereabouts do you live?
 
I'm in California. I see that you are in Ohio, but I am having a hard time knowing where to look for someone skilled enough to redo a compensated nut. One tech that I took it to in southern California was too scared to touch it. I just thought I would ask you in case any kind of lead turned up. Knowing that I can get a blank from Ernie Ball is a start. Thanks again.

Yes sir - I don't think its a very difficult job. The tech I used actually had it back to me a few hours later - but I caught him at a very good time.

I had looked around on the MM site for some type of repair/service info, but never found any. So I thought maybe they did not take anything that wasn't under warranty (mine no longer is). Do they do non-warranty service?

I have seen one product that claims to come pre-compensated. But I was under the impression that each slot would need to be cut for length (not just depth) according to the individual guitar's nuances, and action preference, etc. Another JP6 that I tried in the store a while back had its nut cut differently than my JP6 (they were the same pre-JPX non-BFR JP6's). I've also seen a tutorial that talks about filing the slots at a slight back angle to match the headstock angle and avoid first fret buzz...adding to my concerns about filing slots accurately. ...Anyway, I'm open to different takes on what needs to happen. Being able to send it home to EBMM would definitely bring peace of mind.

As Dr Kev says, they don't advertise it, but they absolutely work on all MM products, and their bench rates are great. I've sent a number of guitars there for fretwork, etc. Get in touch with them and get 'er all tuned up.
 
my SUB1 had an aftermarket nut which I didn´t like `cause it looked cheap. So I changed it and it was carved.
Let´s assume the SUB1 and the SS are very similar so it may be the same

In the factory tour at ebmm video that is on youtube, you can see that the nut slot is swung togheter with the fret slots, so the botom must be curved. (The video is dated before the compensated nuts)
