Just thought I'd share my Bongo flavoured tale of woe with you all.

It's my birthday on Oct 20th, and I was looking forward to ordering myself a brand new 4-string HH Bongo in Blue Pearl with a Black Pearloid scratchplate (which I believe are the same options Bovinehost has on his HS 4 string). However, I called up various music stores in my area last week, and got told that there was a 3 month wait for that finish in the UK. I'm gonna place an order tomorrow, but it looks like I'm Bongoless until Christmas.

BTW, bovinehost, is your HS in blue pearl or carbon blue pearl? My sucky monitor doesn't really distinguish :)

Just in case you don't want to wait...

scroll down a little ways and you'll see your bass, I think they're pricing and shipping costs are quite competitive with other places.possibly an option.

I'll email them asking for a quote for shipping to the UK, but I don't think I'd want to buy from them. What if it went horribly wrong? I'd have to ship it back to florida. That's gonna be hella expensive. Would the UK suppliers accept it if any repairs needed to be made, or would I have to ship it back to the US?

Thanks for the suggestion man! :)

Good point...
another tip, if you're ever near St.Albans (last stop before Lutton on the train) check out Pete's Music shop, a great guy and there's an awesome place that does chicken Tikka rolls two doors down

US dealers are not allowed to ship overseas. You'll need to contact a "local" dealer for your gear. Sorry.

 I think I've suggested them once before and that's only because of the other guys in here that seem to really like the place, I personally just stick with my local Long & McQuade store (CDN version of Guitar Center...but a very pale comparison)

Yup! - for those of us without a Big$$$gig, and who have no choice but to chip the ice off our 4s & 5s before playing in the land of permanight, L&M Granville is a good choice because A) they're there for you with no arguments when you need them, B) they actually have a bass player on duty, & C) they're as price competitive as they can be while keeping some stock on hand and paying stupid high rents in a relatively low volume market ... that's mainly why I dislike parallel (discount) markets and try to support authorized retailers /Rayan

Ya, Granville's good but I do like the sheer enormity of the Guitar Centers that I've been to in the US(Boston and Sunset in LA), it's just such an overwhelming mind meld to hear guitars and basses being played without any amp rooms! :D

No harm Psychicpet. I'm sure I've seen you mention them for something to that affect, and then you suggested the site to somebody planning on making a black onyx jazz I believe. In truth I went to the link and enjoy the place, just making a funny observation.

I'm bumping this because it's over 3 months since I made the original post in this thread, and I STILL don't have a bongo (and I'm trying to curry sympathy for myself). I'm mucho depressed.

Worst of it is, the EBMM depot near me (no more than 15 miles away from me, in Shoreham-by-sea) told me at one point (via my dealer) that I'd have it before Christmas. But since then, the shipment's been delayed and delayed and delayed, to the point when today they said I might not get it till Jan 20th. The ship hasn't even docked in England yet. Perhaps someone at EBMM could shed some light on why this happens? It would make me feel better.

I KNOW that when this bass comes it's going to make everything better, and it's going to be lovely, and the neck is going to feel like silk, and the low end is going to blow up my amplifier, which is all wonderful. But to be honest, I'm kinda losing faith in EB. An extra month to wait for a bass isn't much in the grand scheme of things, but it hacks me off when I'm waiting on the end of the phone just to be told more bad news. My band is getting some exposure, and I'm still playing gigs with my Squier.

Fact is, the EBMM guys are hardcore professionals who are doing their very best, and everything will be wonderful. But I swear, if there's so much as a scratch on it, I'm selling it and buying a Warwick. End of story :p

I had to wait five months for my Bongo to arrive. I ordered it back in May '04 and received it on Oct. '04. Be patient and try to keep your mind off the lag. It's worth it!

No you didn't... Tell me you didn't just threaten to sell the Bongo you have yet to play for a Warwick. I know you are frustrated but now you're just talk'n foolish. Obviously there is a reason for the delays. Ebmm is fairly small company that sells extremely high quality gear-the demand is high-would you rather they just sloppily put together your bass, throw it in a box and send it to you? When you get it you'll understand and appreciate the extra time put into it.

True dat, thank you for your words of wisdom. My beef ain't with the length of construction, it's the obscene amount of time it seems to be taking this boat to cross the atlantic. My dealers words to me about 2 weeks ago were, "They're waiting for the ship to dock". So has it got lost? Is it using sail power? Is it rounding the cape of good hope for good measure?

I'm not really that annoyed, and I didn't seriously consider the Warwick, but I really really want this bass! Right now! [Falls out of pram]

Wow. The shipping company. Quite surprised I didn't think of that one actually. That would make sense, quite when I began to assume EB owned a fleet of container ships I don't know.

Back to playschool methinks....

They sold off the container ships when the Sabres failed to change the face of rock music, and I just wasn't sure the word had gotten out.

(I might have said "Rail against the shippers, not the manufacturers" and been more clear, I suppose. You Brits have a way of reminding me when I'm not entirely concise or clear.)
