I finished the cabinet today and plugged it into the V3. These are nice speakers. Like a quieter V30. Didn't play much. Just enough to start liking my V3 again. Here are some pics. I'm going rip the tolex off in the summer and do it over with contact cement. Plugging into the left jack gives you 8ohm mono and plugging into both gives you 16ohm stereo. I used Switchcraft jacks.

Hey guys, thanks. No, it's not a kit. I built it from scratch. There are some pics on my site. The new domain is www.dafguitars.com. I haven't finished posting cab construction pics yet.

Philip, I must have forgotten to post my JSX clips here. I lost them though when I setup my new domain. I'll put them back up.

I like the V3 but I'm not sure what the final verdict is yet. We've been real busy here since the holidays and I haven't had alot of time to do anything much less spend time with the V3. In fact, my wife is having our 3rd child today!

In a nutshell, the V3 has a nice, nice clean channel and two real good high gain channels. But it has some master controls that I haven't really figured out yet. It has a ton of features too like 2 loops (series,parallel both with tail switches), MIDI and more.

Gotta run. Kid's gotta get to school.

Hey man, that's some cool stuff! :cool: You have both amps that I am looking into for the hopefully near future, and plus maybe a Road King, but that's out of my league for a while. So how would you compare between the V3 and JSX sound wise and quality wise? At this point I am really looking more into the V3 because of its 4 channels and also price, but I would like to know as much about it as possible, since I would have to buy it to try it :rolleyes: . Anyway, if you could play some more with the V3 and get back on the subject at some point that would be cool! Also what would your suggestion be for a 2x12 cab with the head?:D :cool:
 
Roubster, still haven't bought an amp uh????? I'm still looking too and I am also thinking about a V3. The forum and web site at carvin has a lot of info on the V3. Most people are saying the legacy, mts, bogner and orange 2x12 are the cabs to go with..............
 
hahaha, not yet man ;) ! I mean I have a Spider 2, but I am disliking it more and more. Dont get me wrong, it is good for what it is, like practicing and noodling around. But I am on a quest for the REAL amp with a REAL nice sound to it that is going to complement my awesome Silhouette. I DID check out the site, and even posted a thread about it a little bit ago, and it does look really interesting. I just want some more opinions of users about it, especially comparing it with the JSX and Cud is the PERFECT candidate since he has both and also likes 2x12 cabs.
So what are you leaning more towards Francric, and when?;)
 
Right now I'm leaning towards a V3 with either the MTS or Legacy cab. For the money I think it can't be beat but who knows I change my mind as the wind blows................:D :D
 
It's a girl!!! We haven't name her yet but she's a beauty. So that's one boy and two ladies.

Hmm, JSX or V3? Tough question. I'm going to be as objective as possible. I love the JSX for it's clean channel and two totally different gain channels. The "crunch" channel is on par with any high gain channel known to man. The "ultra" channel is just insane. It sounds great with pedals in front and has a built in noise gate that I find works very well. What I really love about it is how good it can sound at low volume. Peavey has nailed the pre-amp circuit gain stage on this amp. Another thing I love is how you can change the type of distortion. For example, crank the channel volume and choke the master volume and you get a more compressed tone. Reverse those volumes and dial in your gain and it opens up a bunch. I bought mine new for $950 shipped off Ebay and have been so happy.

The V3 is in so many ways, similar and in other ways, a totally different beast. It is not a 4 channel amp. It has 3 channels, has a great clean channel and oodles of gain. It too lacks a reverb tank, as does the JSX but that's where the similarities end. It is MIDI capable and has both a series and parallel FX loop. It's very touch sensitive so you better have your chops up because when you flub a note, you'll hear it. This is the hardest thing for me to get used to. It reminds me of both the Mark IVs I used to have. It may be more versatile than the JSX though. Maybe. It has mast Bright, Mid Cut and Deep controls that just expand on the independent EQ. Plus, each channel has and Intense/Regular/Fat switch and EQ Expander switches. The clean channel includes a Bright/Soak switch for going from shimmery Fender cleans to overdriven greasy blues. It just has so much that I haven't even tried.

The JSX has BIAS trim pots on board and contact points for a Multimeter in order to read the bias yourself. Awesome feature.

At $899, The V3 is an unreal value. I've heard some equate it with Bogner and Engl amps but I'm not that familiar with those. You should just order one and try it for 10 days. Don't like it? Send it back for a refund. Finding a JSX to try shouldn't be tough.

Thanks for the review on the 2 heads buddy. I have played the JSX head before and definatly liked it a lot, but just did not have enough time with it. But I think I am really going to try the V3 first at some point especially due to that 10 day policy. But I guess I'll have to order a 2x12 cab FIRST, so that either way wether I keep the V3 or replace it with JSX I will actually be able to play.
 
Thanks everyone! Man I've been having some serious EBMM GAS lately. My last 4 guitars have been Carvins and I so want another Petrucci or Luke. You guys don't make it any easier. Not to worry though, I've got birthday money from a surprise 40th my wife through me before the baby was born and I've got some programming work lined up on the side that should get me enough for several new axes. Just don't know where I'm going to put them all! I'll worry about that later.
