I posted a few weeks ago about my JP6 purchase but never got around to posting pictures, serial #, etc... I bought this baby used at a tiny little store up in Saratoga Springs. It was an amazing deal and I had no idea it was even used after playing it for 4 hours. The guys at the store had to fill me in on that after I'd already fallen in love.
So... the serial # is G28904. As it was used, I have no idea how old it is, can anyone fill me in on this based on the number? I've got a few pictures (poor because they were taken in a dark NYC apartment). Can you directly attach images here or do you need to host them elsewhere?
I'm in love with this guitar, but have had a few teething issues. I'd mentioned that I wasn't getting enough gain through my current amp, and decided to upgrade. I tried out a Peavey Valveking, and while that was a huge step up for me, it still didn't have the gain I was looking for. So that is going back, and I've got a used Peavey XXX Super 40 combo on the way. I think that'll do the trick.
I also have been having problems with the low E string. I can't believe that I didn't notice it when buying it, but the E string ended up with some buzz in it and now it's gone completely dead when fretting above the 12th fret, or with palm mutes above the 5th fret. The action on the guitar is set beautifully low, but the E string was visibly lower then all the others. I first figured that I just needed to raise up that one string a tad. Upon doing this I noticed that one of the two screws which hold up the saddle pieces for the E string seems to be missing. Because of that, the saddle piece is slightly tilted and obviously that's why the string is so much lower.
Is this the type of thing that any reputable guitar shop could take care of? I work right on 48th st in Manhattan where all the big music stores are. There is a very reputable place called Rudy's (if anyone has heard of it), that I'm sure would do fine. However, they are not actually a licensed EBMM guitar dealer, just basses. After them, I think the other option is Guitar Center on 14th st, but I there is no way in hell I want to take this guitar there, the people there are idiots for the most part. I'm sure Rudy's would do a good job, but should I be worried about getting the exact replacement piece from Ernie Ball?
