Last Saturday night I was playing my 6 string guitar and I put my SR5 HH against the bass amp and my guitar cord knocked down my bass accidentaly and my bass went all the way down to hard dance floor. A dancer picked it up and put it back on stage but I had to keep on playing my guitar and I kind of smiled at the dancer who picked it up for me but I was very worried because it hit the floor pretty hard:eek: Well after I got done playing the guitar I examined the bass and it did not break anything but it received just a small hairline checking to the clear coat on back of the bass and I was very relieved:p No damage to the wood itself and next song I played the bass and it was still in tune:D This incident proved me that SR5 is a well built instrument;)

Oops, reminds me the accident with my SUB5. I was gigging when the strap went off on one side and I couldn't stop the bass from falling down. It hit the floor pretty damn hard, the front of the bass down on the stage, and then even bouncing once. I was scared. I picked up the bass and played again, not daring looking at it. It was still in tune. After the song, I gave a quick look at the bass : absolutely NOTHING. Later, back home, I inspected it again, same thing : not a single ding or dent on the finish. Nothing wrong.

They're definitely rock solid, IMO.

If you don't have a guitar stand then do what I usually do . . . I have a velcro strip attached to my cab and I just lean the bass up against my cab and then wrap the velco strip around the neck. Keeps it securely in place.

I used to install a string swing on the side of my 8 x 10 or the top cab of my 4x10's. That way I had a nice out of the way place to hang my bass while using another one.

Never leave home without one of these for each of your instruments. It's $30 VERY well spent.

The guitar player I used to play with knocked my Bongo 4HH off the guitar stand in an expert show of drunkenness which resulted in the paint being chipped down to the wood near the strap button at the bridge. Dumbass. He likes to mix Xanax and mass quantities of beer while playing out. He isn't as good as he used to be, needless to say.

By basses always have stands. If not, it's in the case. In fact, after a recent incident my guitar player had with his instrument, I may be putting my basses in the case at all times when not being played at gigs.

Gloriously durable, them SR5s!
I suppose you CAN destroy one, but I think you would have to TRY to do it.
Mine has multiple chips and dings, which I repair every 3 years or so, whenever a major one appears. Headstock dings I leave in.
I open the chip, or scrape the finish out of the ding, til I get to sealer.
I use a combi of teal and blue Sharpies to color in the wood, then slowly fill w/Stew Mac 20x cyanoacrylate in stages till it is a little proud of the surface.
Sand w/1000 grit till level, then through the gamut of Meguiar's products with a buffer til it looks awesome!
My color match is kinda close, at best, but from 3 feet away it looks fine.

2 of my teachers have both consistently advised me that my SR5s and all my instruments are special devices that deserve to be protected and properly treated at all times = put back in their cases when not being played ... it may not look sexy during a gig or practice but it prevents unnecessary damage and repairs and downtime.

I never liked tri-pod stands because they still easily knock over.
I've got one of those tolex cases that folds out and latches into a square stand for three basses, and is complete with felt lining. Can't knock those over, you'll fall down trying.

i just dont get how you can spend so much money on a bass and not spend 20 quid for a stand ??
even a cheap stand would have stopped it falling.if its a space issue use a mark bass velcro,i got one they are pretty cool but i still use stands at gigs.

Or the guy whose strap fell off because he didn't have straplocks, or guys who complain they trashed their new bass by carting it in a gig bag. I bet the same people don't have insurance either. As we say - penny wise, pound foolish. Or cent wise, dollar foolish, for the benefit of our North American colleagues.

I started to use the Herclues Mini Stands. They are so small they fit in a gig bag pocket and they sit low on the floor, so you can't know them over... you can, however, knock the bass out of them, but that's true with every stand and enough momentum...
