Had to do a little truss adjustment last night, the wheel apparantly is frozen (nothing a little lubricant cant fix) anyway the cheap a$$ screwdriver I was using snapped while I was trying to turn the wheel and the handle part of the screwdriver hit the bass right near where the body just begins to shape into the lower horn. Its not a bad ding, a little bigger than the size of a pin tip, it isnt even a dent per se just an almost perfect circle crack in the clearcoat. When it happened though, at the time I might as well have taken a slege hammer to it! Out of the 7 MM basses Ive had, Ive never dinged one myself, and out of all the basses Ive had this is the first one Ive dinged in 10 years!! I cant imagine what you guys that have a special run of something i.e. the Dargies, or the anniversary models initially go through on your first "mojo" experience!

I know how you feel..... :( Always bad when sonething like that happens.
It's better during a gig though! Except when drummers trip over the cable....etc. etc.

I just got my Sterling and was playing along with some tunes while sitting on the ground with the CD player in front of me. I reached over to skip to another track and my beloved bass fell with its body on the CD player. A big piece of paint chipped off. I searched for hours and hours.... Never found it. :(

My medalion gold SR5 and my SR5 HH are still "battlescar free" haha.
and YES, I do play them a lot :D

Yeah, it can be "heartbreaking"!!

However, it must be expected! If it's your "playin'" instrument, it can't be avoided!!

Sometime, somehow, someway, dings, chips and dents will automatically come (otherwise known as wear and tear).

And, since you know this in advance, just take "normal" steps to minimize the extent etc. . . you'll enjoy your bass more, be less uptight, and be less frustrated.

That bass will probably be here long after your gone anyway.

Oh, and a long handled Allen wrench works the best for that. :)

Have to agree. Slipped once taking my 20th SR5 out of its gigbag and it hit the concrete basement floor taking a cm diameter chunk of finish off by the strap post nearest the bridge. Man that sucked.

wow Id have probably stabbed my eyes out with a soldering iron. My pin sized ding doesnt seem so bad anymore.

how many times have I got to pistol whip you?:D

J/K All in fun! That term just reminds me of this dude in town that has this crappy post gibson tobias 5 and an ampeg stack that always told me when I was young and broke and couldn't afford anymore than a pawnshop fender amp and a P bass just how bad my gear sucked because it didn't have the same "growl as his Toby and ampeg" that was basically the only term he knew to describe bass tone and I heard it so much It gives me the nail on the chalkboard shivers. Its funny how his idea of "growl" and mine differed. Growl to him meant sending your speakers into excursion and having to occasionally get them replaced! That and there was a TB thread some kid started titled something to the effect of "who makes the growliest bass?" which just furthered my chalkboard madness.

John,

I'm okay with your need to bludgeon the next person that uses the description "growl", but please, while you've got your gun out, beat the next person that says his bass "plays like buttah". Please, for me.

Well really after you abuse your SR5 like that it should be sold at half price to someone like me that won't be hurting it so much. :D

I mean how could ya do that to your SR5?

:)

But surely the only thing left to do after that happens is to banish it to the colonies. One of us antipodeans will take good care of it. Namely me:D

BTW John, I feel your pain. I recently discovered a wel dag on the guitar stand at my regular venue had left multiple indentations in the finish (through the rubber protector). I am annoyed at myself that I didn't see it straight away. I was not happy that day:mad: That's after 12 years of unblemished history.

It was worse than the day the SR5 fell of the stand and landed on the B string machine head (and busted it). Fortunately that's all that happenned and a week later and new machine head from my dealer and it was good as new.

Ugh, I know the feeling. A couple of days ago I dinged the headstock on my beautiful Dargie. Took a tiny bit of paint off, matching headstock and all.
Oh well, life goes on......
