My Statement about StingRays

My StingRay is the best bass i've ever played. I'm always going to music stores, just to see if i can find a bass that sounds and plays better than my stingray. The only bass that plays remotly like it is another stingray. please comment if you have similar experiences.

Bongos are the best basses to me, but I like the SR5 too. I see one in my future, but right now it looks like it's waaay into the future

My exact sentiment, till I got a Bongo.

I put my Stingray, a great bass, on the brown truck today to make room for another Bongo.

I have been playing my Bongo 5 H exclusively at gigs and band practice. I play my SR5 at home for practice without the band. That SR 5 still has my love.

Recent gigs out of State has me convinced I can play the thunder out of a Bongo too.

Owning two great basses is an honor I never thought I would deserve. Well I probably don't deserve but I have them any way.

I am pretty well convinced if the headstock says EBMM or MM it is easy to love.

I'm spoiled because I live near Bass Northwest, one of the best bass stores in the world. Even then, there are very few basses I've played there that are "better" than the StingRay. Some very highly priced Alembics come to mind, and the high-end Modulus basses are killer.

IMO the StingRay is light years ahead of anything with a selling price under $2000, and it's just "different" than the $2-3000 range. You really do have to go up into the 2-3x range to really get a big difference.

For me the Sterling was the "new and improved Stingray" for the under six-foot crowd.

Well, let me get myself in trouble here.

I picked up a Lakland hollowbody a few weeks back in a trade. I'd always wanted to try one and wondered how it would fit into a band that plays Bob Wills and Lyle Lovett and so on. I imagined that the hollowbody vibe would be good, so when it arrived, I had a little fling with it. I played it two nights straight and my guitar player, who is very aware of 'appearances', thought it was ultra-cool.

And it IS a nice bass, Sterling.

Anyway, so for two rehearsals in a row, I used the hollowbody. Last night, thinking I needed to give it a workout, I grabbed my Bongo 5 single hummer in Candy Red.

It wasn't even CLOSE. Even Brian, who really wants me to play something more 'authentic', said, "Well, that's what was missing."

I had imagined myself playing the hollowbody for at least a few songs before switching out for a Bongo, but the gig tonight..........nah.

I know what I want and I know what I like.

The hollowbody is for sale.

Music Man basses are what I want.

I duuno man...my Bongo HH is probably the best/most versatile bass I've ever owned. Just spent an hour with it playing to Quadrophenia again and it nails the JE tone down pat!

I really haven't played anything Musicman or else, that tops my '79 Sabre in playability, feel or grit. My '00 Stingray comes the closest, though and has gotten more playing time lately. The most fun bass to play is the SR5. None of these 3 is probably as versatile as a Sterling or Bongo. But as far as "the" tone that to me fits what we play, I could die content with those 3. That trans red SR5 unfortunately is going to be replaced by a DD SR5.

Oh ok So there is different Bass Companies. I thought Ernie Ball Music Man we're the only people making basses. Dang My Bad Sorry.

I have tried just about every bass Ive wanted to try.

I always come back to the Ray, Sterling, or Bongo.

EBMM are just me. Have been since I was 15 years old.
